The Role:

Our Legal Services team has a position available for a suitably qualified lawyer to join our experienced team based in our Subiaco office on a two-year, fixed term basis.

The Senior Corporate Counsel will provide employment, litigation and general corporate legal support across all areas of Newmont Australia's business and operations, with an initial focus in the areas of Dispute Resolution and Human Resources.

This is a regional role based in Perth. Newmont supports flexible remote working arrangements through a hybrid working model, therefore the majority of your work will be conducted remotely.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide general legal advice and support across Newmont's Australian operations and business, including:
    • Advising on general litigation matters and disputes, such as overseeing insurance claims (public liability claims), preparing and reviewing contentious correspondence and providing strategic advice on litigious matters.
    • Providing dispute management services to the Human Resources function. The incumbent will work with both internal and external legal specialists to manage employee relations matters.
    • Providing ancillary support (including drafting and negotiating contracts) to the Supply Chain function in relation to procurement matters.
    • Providing ancillary support to other functions of the business such as Health, Safety and Security, and Sustainability and External Relations.
  • Assist in the identification and management of legal risk to Newmont Australia's business through the provision of prompt and practical legal advice.
  • Work with and assist other members of the Legal Services team to provide legal advice and manage large or complex legal matters.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of Legal Services standards and procedures, guidance material, legal templates and other relevant documents.
  • Monitor developments in the law affecting Newmont Australia's operations and provide advice on relevant legislative and policy developments which may impact operations.
  • Provide education and training to staff on relevant legal matters.


You Will Have:

  • An undergraduate Law Degree and be admitted to legal practice in Western Australia with demonstrated PQE.
  • A demonstrated experience in a commercial law environment (whether in private practice or in-house), preferably with exposure to the mining industry.
  • Experience in advising on general litigation and employment relations, procurement, environment and approvals and native title or cultural heritage.
  • A practical and commercial focus to your work.
  • An ability to communicate clearly and confidently at all levels within the company.
  • A high standard of work required with accurate and efficient standards expected and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Confidence in dealing with colleagues across all levels and functions of the business.
