About the role
We have an exciting opportunity within our transport team for a Maintenance Supervisor to join the Milford Road Alliance working in Te Anau and on the Milford Road. The Alliance is a partnership with the NZ Transport Agency to manage and maintain State Highway 94 to Milford Sound. The Milford Rd is unlike any other road in the country with its many challenges including weather, terrain and remoteness.

As our Maintenance Supervisor on the Milford Rd you'll be working in and overseeing a small team who maintain the road, keep the highway safe and open in Fiordland conditions and deliver small project improvements when possible. You'll be expected to be a "working" supervisor meaning being hands on with the rest of the team.

Working for Downer you will be a part of a wider team that designs, builds, and maintains 25,000 kms worth of roads in Aotearoa.   • On-site management and supervision of operational crews
  • Planning, organising, directing and controlling the activities and operations of road maintenance projects
  • Quality inspection, data collection and assisting with claiming of work
  • Ensuring work is completed to a high standard and all targets (productivity, quality and safety) are met

About you
You'll have experience within the maintenance space, particularly in winter conditions eg Snow or ice. You'll be a team player with a positive attitude and a desire to make the community a better place for people to live in and do business.

You'll also have:
  • A proven track record of supervising teams in roading maintenance activities
  • A hands-on attitude
  • Solutions focused with a customer/road user mind-set and philosophy
  • Strong organisation and planning skills with an ability to deal with unexpected events, including weather, geotech and traffic and provide clear direction to operational teams
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to work in a remote location and operate independently if required
  • Able to take ownership of quality and work programmes timelines in difficult conditions
