About the role

We are looking for a Project Manager- 24 month contract position at the Rio Tinto Kennecott Concentrator, to lead and implement projects that maximize value for the business. The role will focus on construction management for process and equipment improvements as well as innovations.

This role is a great opportunity to implement your leadership skills and innovative improvement techniques in the Projects and Engineering department. Reporting to the Principal Engineer - Projects & Engineering, you will be:
  • Identifying opportunities to maximize value through projects at the Concentrator and Mine, including opportunities to improve equipment performance, innovate and introduce new technologies.
  • Identifying and supporting technological advancements and driving continued improvement for the value stream, acting as a conduit for leading process practice from elsewhere in Rio Tinto and the wider industry.
  • Developing business cases for capital expenditure and project justifications, clearly communicating context and reasoning.
  • Identifying, organizing and facilitating bottleneck issues with cross-functional teams (operations, technical, asset management, and reliability groups) in support of safely meeting and exceeding production goals.
  • Regularly working with key stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation and continuous improvement

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Engineering degree is preferred or other relevant combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Experience in managing projects using the Stage gate process for the Project Implementation.
  • Experience in managing Engineering and Construction Contractors with a good knowledge of the procurement process.
  • A PMP certification is an asset to have in this role.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in managing projects throughout the Project Life Cycle and executing work safely.
  • A minimum of 10 years in heavy industry
  • Excellent communication skills/Stakeholder engagement
  • Proactive and self-driven multiple tasks while working on multiple projects, at the same time maintaining accuracy and flexibility
  • Knowledge of the key value drivers in the mining industry and should possess management skills in relating to projects.
  • Experienced in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships of teams

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience giving industry technical/business presentations to Senior Management and peers
  • Strong decision-making, and process management skills and a, collaborative and team-oriented management style.
  • Understanding of the process engineering requirements for brownfield capital projects
