We are looking for a Senior Advisor - Group Financial Reporting Risk to support the Controllers Area of Expertise team, responsible for co-ordination and delivery of Group reporting activities for the Rio Tinto Group. It works closely with the Controllership teams worldwide, Product Groups and Functions, and other Areas of Expertise (such as Tax, Treasury and Investor Relations) to deliver high quality reporting and analysis to internal and external stakeholders.

As a sub-team of Corporate Reporting, the Financial Reporting Risk team is responsible for managing the development of systems and reporting processes; providing technical expertise, Group context and oversight to the Group's control environment. The team works closely with various internal stakeholders as well as our internal and external auditors

Reporting to the Manager - Group Financial Reporting Risk, this role will be responsible for supporting activities which improve and de-risk the Group's processes, including:
  • Phase 2 implementation, management, and continuous improvement of the SOx reporting platform. Currently we are using Workiva's Wdesk platform but are always exploring new technology offerings.
  • Advising on and contributing to improvements in business process and control activities. This involves close liaison with process owners to help them develop and implement robust control activities and streamline the operation of these controls.
  • Assisting with project management and delivery of the SOx program through the year, in close partnership with internal stakeholders, KPMG and Deloitte.
  • Review, analysis and challenge of deliverables provided by reporting units.
  • Support users of SOx systems (control and process owners) on practical user interface matters in the reporting tool.
  • Preparation of financial briefing information and project status updates for senior management and Board level reporting.
  • Contributing to and delivering both targeted and Group wide training programs relevant to critical systems and processes (mainly judgmental processes such as those relating to impairment, economic forecasts and closure estimates).
  • Respond to ad-hoc queries and information requests from various stakeholders across the Group; for example Investor Relations, Company Secretarial, Group Legal, Tax, Sustainable Development, and Treasury.

About you

To be considered for this position:
  • Newly qualified/qualified (1-2 years) Chartered Accountant qualification/accreditation (ACA or equivalent).
  • Preferably 'Big 4' accounting firm trained and qualified; interest and experience in the extractive industry is desirable.
  • Audit or advisory experience in controls and processes (flowcharting, control design and testing, process improvement experience).
  • Specific SOx experience highly desirable.
  • Experience of Group corporate reporting or experience working in/with a global listed company.
  • Ability to write financial documents on technical subjects for both internal and external audiences, whether specialist or non-specialist.
  • Experience with Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) and Smartview for excel retrieve formula (desirable but not required).
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint applications assumed. Some experience of financial modelling an advantage.
  • Experience with Workiva Wdesk, Visio/Miro desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Right to work in the United Kingdom.
