Dimensions

Direct supervision of the General Forepersons, Mine Clerk and Production Coordinator. Interacts with Underground Engineering, Underground Supervisors, Geology, Maintenance and Electrical, Safety Department, Human Resources, and Administration. Responsible for various mine positions including reviewing complete work, providing direction, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and assessing performance.

Purpose

  • Overall management of People, Safety, Partnerships, Margins, Production and Reserves associated with the Hoyle Pond Mine.
  • Co-ordinate mid and long term mining activities ensuring that the work is performed in a safe and efficient manner and manage all resources towards meeting the plan.
  • Participate in strategic planning with senior management team.


Essential Duties

  • Provide leadership on the implementation of Fatality Risk Management. Provide and support coaching and mentoring of supervisors, employees and contractors in the use of Fatality Risk Management and Critical Control Verifications during field observations.
  • Meet overall safety targets showing year over year improvement.
  • Act as the management representative on the JHSC for Hoyle.
  • Responsible for development, monitoring and improvement of safety performance for all operations employees.
  • Support and maintain value based Safety Management System that enables a continuous process of identifying and managing hazards/risks, monitoring compliance and following up with employees.
  • Review and guide contractors to ensure they have the trained personnel, equipment, information and motivation to work safely.
  • Promote and adhere to Newmont environmental and sustainability polices.
  • Complete weekly/monthly safety tours.
  • Ensure compliance to safe operating conditions and practices, proper communication protocols and equipment visibility and pre inspections.
  • Review of new policies and procedures as required.
  • Manage operations to comply with Best Management Plan and address community feedback to minimize adverse impacts on the surrounding community.
  • Ensure employees and contractors have the tools and systems in place to perform work safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure employees are developed to reach their full potential and meet organizational goals.
  • Implement succession plans for key employees.
  • Promote the principle of ownership, accountability and mutual respect to the workforce and Supervision.
  • Conduct interviews and select staff employees for hire.
  • Keep employees informed of issues that affect them, ensuring two way communication.
  • Apply Employee Improvement Action plan as required.
  • Liaise with all support departments in setting the direction and establishing the mid to long term mine plan.
  • Participate in strategic planning at the senior management level.
  • Meet overall safety, production and cost targets.
  • Initiate, develop and implement policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with all support departments in setting the direction and establishing the mid- to long-term mine plan.
  • Optimize operational assets and resources through continuous improvement.
  • Manage mine production and costs to the budgeted levels.
  • Review and report of monthly production and cost variances.
  • Submit monthly financial accruals.
  • Complete the mine operational and asset management budget.
  • Establish relationships with external agencies (i.e. MOL, MOE).
  • Participate in strategic planning at the senior management level.


Training & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent discipline and related experience for the position.
  • 10 years experience mining experience
  • 5 years experience at a supervisory level
  • Able to read engineering plans with a good understanding of ground control.
  • A good knowledge of blasting, ventilation, and mine services
  • A good working knowledge of underground mining methods and procedures and legislation.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Financial Knowledge
  • Basic Underground Common Core an asset


Working Conditions

  • This position is located at Hoyle, part of Newmont's Porcupine Mine Site near Timmins, ON.
  • In this role, you will work a 4x3schedule. As such, if you do not live near the site, we will require you to relocate.
