Position summary
Delivering a better way with technology solutions, Next Generation Technologies (NGT) helps customers respond and leverage technical innovation to their competitive advantage. Downer has formed the NGT business, which delivers state-of-the-art products and services for Public Transport ticketing Systems, Smart Cities, ITS (Intelligent Transport Solutions), Communications, Networks and Audio Visual, CCTV, Security and Access Control and Specialised Technology.


NGT now has a fantastic opportunity for skilled individuals with a technical background in electronic or ticketing systems to join their Canning Vale office on a permanent basis. As an Automation Technician, you will have experience in maintenance and/or installation of electronic componentry or equipment coupled with the maturity, confidence, and capability to work independently, reporting to the Service Manager based in Perth.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Maintenance of electronic ticketing systems, including servicing, modifying, commissioning, testing, fault finding, and diagnosing of various forms of machinery and equipment which are electronically controlled by complex digital and analogue control systems using integrated circuitry;
  • Maintaining and repairing multi-function printed circuitry using circuit diagrams and test equipment
  • Preparing reports of a technical nature on specific tasks or assignments as directed and within the scope and level of the work described in this definition;
  • Working without supervision and technical guidance in the workshop or in the field;
  • Provide specialised technical guidance within the scope of work
  • Performing basic networking troubleshooting;
  • Working to a project schedule and timeline;


  • Relevant vocational or trade level qualifications (AQF certificate level 3 or higher) (e.g. Electrotechnology, Auto-Electrician, trade qualified Electrician or similar);
  • Open driver's C-Class license;
  • Current police clearance certificate;
  • Solid understanding of electronic fundamentals with a strong mechanical aptitude;
  • Competency in manual handling tasks, using tools;
  • Ability to troubleshoot on Windows-based devices; and
  • A genuine commitment to ensuring a Zero Harm work environment at all times.

  • Electricians Licence or Restricted Disconnect Re-connect will be advantageous;
  • Previous Ticket Machine Maintenance experience desirable;
  • Forklift license will be advantageous,
  • Working at heights will be advantageous
