Reporting to the General Manager, Finance and Operating Excellence, the Manager, Commercial Accounting, Coal is responsible for the accurate and timely measurement of financial information, results and reporting for the Coal marketing and logistics groups. This includes actual, budget, forecast and business partner support, ensuring compliance with financial accounting guidelines, internal controls, and interim and year-end audit oversight.

To be successful, we are looking for someone who has excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication, and relationship management skills; with advanced problem solving and decision-making abilities. You will have an ability to prioritize, work under pressure with minimal guidance, and meet tight deadlines. Most importantly, a high degree of critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to interpret data will be vital in the decision support role.

Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Facilitate decision-making by reporting on Coal business unit sales and transportation costs such as actuals, budget, forecast, ad hoc modelling and analysis
  • Translate cost and operational trends, identify risks and opportunities to plan, and completing ad hoc analysis while providing direction to marketing and logistics groups
  • Oversee month end close process, monthly forecast and annual budget cycles, and weekly cash forecasting
  • Ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards and other regulatory requirements
  • Support and facilitate internal controls and ensure related SOX obligations are met
  • Lead day-to-day functions of the Coal commercial financial team, including decision support, accounts receivable, re-bills, carbon tax, and general ledger management
  • Provide financial support for the Teck Beijing and Japan offices
  • Coordinate internal and external audit activities
  • Manage the design, implementation, and performance of financial and management reporting systems and identify process improvements in relation to marketing and logistics accounting and reporting
  • Supervise, develop, and mentor a team of professional financial staff


Qualifications:
  • Certified Public Accountant or equivalent designation
  • Minimum ten years of progressive experience in accounting or finance
  • Knowledgeable in International Financial Reporting Standards
  • Advanced ability to develop and interpret financial performance with an understanding of business drivers and relevant outputs required to promote decision making
  • Expert digital literacy in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, ERP and experience with scenario modelling
  • Previous experience in the mining industry is an asset
