The location of this role is the Tucson, Arizona office.

The Role

The Senior Planner & Scheduler is essential to the overall success of the organization by planning, managing, and monitoring Early Works, Feasibility Study, detailed engineering and construction activities. This position is responsible for overseeing engineering and construction inputs, processes, and timelines and making any necessary adjustments in order to ensure successful completion of the Hermosa project.

Accountabilities ( Include but are not limited to) :

Individual Accountabilities:
    • Serve as the planning and scheduling expert.
    • Assist the Project Controls Manager to resolve resource and scheduling conflicts.
    • Assist the Project Controls Manager to Develop engineering, procurement and construction schedules with input from internal stakeholders, design consultants, vendors, and contractors.
    • Validate consultant, engineer and vendor schedule quality utilizing Acumen Risk.
    • Complete schedule contingency and cost contingency analyses as directed.
    • Check and confirm the accuracy of planning work performed by consultants and subconsultants including verification of the methods used by engineering and planning staff.
    • Review timelines for Early Works construction activities including compilation and analysis of contractor execution schedules and verification against approved baselines.
    • Review timelines for engineering and procurement.
    • Develop and publish project schedule related documentation as required.
    • Coordinate consultant and vendor communication to ensure the integrity of Planning and Scheduling activities.
    • Answer questions and resolve issues brought forth by the engineering consultants, vendors, and Hermosa project team members.
    • Ensure where required that VDC BIM planning and scheduling methodologies are applied in conformity with S32 and Hermosa business and technology objectives.
    • Ensure that consultant and construction contractor progress and programming deliverables conform to S32 requirements and earned value measurement standards.
    • Ensure the timely submission of consultant and construction contractor progress and programming deliverables.
    • Spearhead various research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for improved outcomes.
    • Communicate and collaborate with other managers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Prepare and deliver various planning-related presentations, for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Report on SQS (Supplier Quality Surveillance) activities and impacts.
    • Provide guidance to the construction team on the planning and scheduling of field installation work including vendor coordination.
    • Prepare and deliver weekly and monthly reports and presentations in conformity with project reporting requirements
    • Ensure that the relevant corporate risk management processes are implemented and monitored during execution of Engineering and Construction work, ensure the relevant risk register(s) and accompanying mitigations are updated;
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Project Controls Manager.


Qualifications, Skills, and Expertise:
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a field related to the position preferred or equivalent qualifications.
  • PMP qualification or other Project Management qualifications preferred
  • Drive company vehicle and be covered under company insurance.
  • Proficient in Primavera P6
  • Intermediate in Microsoft Project
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence, and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively.
  • Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct.
  • Analytical, and capable of evaluating and solving various complex problems.
  • Leadership skills necessary to manage and develop a team.
  • Organizational competencies and project management skills to keep projects, processes, and engineering/construction teams on track.
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment.
  • Interpersonal communication skills with expertise in distilling complicated topics to a broader audience.
  • 10+ years of planning & scheduling experience in heavy industry, preferably Mining, Oil & Gas or other heavy construction.
  • Demonstrated ability of above requirements. Strong English language written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team.
