Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.

Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering modern leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

The Role

Reporting to the Business Readiness Maintenance Specialist, the Business Readiness Fixed Plant Technical Advisor will apply knowledge, skills and experience to effectively identify, create and deploy business readiness activities. The Business Readiness Fixed Plant Technical Advisor will be involved in all phases of business readiness activities including but not limited to information gathering requirements, optimising, installation, commissioning, deployment of maintenance and operations systems support in term of Mine Maintenance for the Tanami Expansion 2 (TE 2) project.

In This Role You Will:

  • Gain extensive knowledge of the NTO mine site, existing infrastructure, mining equipment, logistics, site conditions and key stakeholders
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders for the review of the maintenance requirements for equipment forming part of the design
  • Identification of maintenance materials and tooling required to support the maintenance strategies
  • Assist in development of maintenance strategies. Support the Reliability Engineer, Maintenance Specialist and Maintenance Advisors in the development and implementation of maintenance strategies to ensure the equipment performs to meet the functional requirements
  • Assist in the development of digital Work instructions as the output from the approved FMECA process
  • Support the development of plant specific training packages
  • Report on the business readiness deliverables
  • Support the design and implementation of commissioning plans
  • Liaise with site technical, operational and maintenance personnel to assist in planning the execution of the maintenance requirements
  • Engage with industry equipment subject matter experts and specialists to get a better understanding of maintenance and operational requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all Newmont's global asset management standards, guidance's and review processes
  • Follow the processes, STP/SOP's, metrics and tools for mine maintenance that will be required and developed during Stage 4 to adequately support the Mining operations underground using management operating system guidelines, as applicable
  • Assist in the identification of changes/additions to management systems (MOS & ERP)


About You:

  • Experience in the mining industry (within Australia or outside Australia)
  • A self-starter with the ability to identify maintenance requirements associated with a vertical shaft hoisting system and crushing circuit along with the associated surface and underground infrastructure
  • Shaft and hoisting systems (Winders)
  • Primary Crushing circuits
  • Conveyor circuits and associated infrastructure
  • A Mechanical or Electrical Trade Qualification or Tertiary Qualification
  • Familiarisation with relevant Australian Standards and applicable legislation pertaining to machinery and winders
  • Experience in project delivery and execution
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • PC skills and computer literacy with familiarisation of various software packages associated with the project controls discipline including MS Office suite, MS Project, document control systems, and Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

You will predominantly be based at the Tanami site in regular travel but may be required to visit Perth Project office, other Newmont sites and travel as required to engage stakeholders and to support the study, construction, commissioning and operational activities.
