About Potash

In 2021, BHP approved a CA$7.5 billion investment in Jansen Stage 1 in Saskatchewan, Canada, which is aligned with their strategy of growing exposure to future facing commodities in world-class assets. The project is expected to produce 4.35 million tonnes of potash per year with initial production targeted for 2027, ramping up to full production over two years. Jansen potash project is located approximately 140 km southeast of Saskatoon. Potash opens a new front for growth and is an expandable resource that can support a century or more of operations. Potash provides BHP with greater diversification by commodity, country, and customer.

Purpose

Reporting to the Manager of Ethics & Investigations America, the Principal Investigator Potash is primarily responsible for conducting specialized investigations as a key member of BHP´s Global Central Investigation team (CIT) within Ethics and Investigations in North America, specifically Potash (Canada). The incumbent will investigate Category A matters (Fraud, Corruption, Sexual Harassment, Sexual Aggression, Retaliation, among others) in accordance with the CIT Investigation Framework. This role provides support to the business and different areas regarding Ethical Behavior, BHP Code of Conduct, Charter Values, Policies, etc. A major responsibility will be to advise and support training, workshops and campaigns to the business in all Category A matters and Code of Conduct.

About the Role

Accountabilities with the biggest impact:

  • Leading Category A investigations 
  • Analyzing evidence, conducting interviews with reporter, respondent and relevant parties, providing recommendations, engaging and informing stakeholders
  • Leading the identification of organizational learnings for the business
  • Working closely with the Investigation support team and the Support Line
  • Preparing supporting documentation for investigations, including records of witness, forensic review, electronic communications and Investigations reports
  • Supporting legal matters regarding investigations, disciplinary sanctions and/or testimony on trial
  • Preparing and reviewing of Investigations summaries and Investigation reports
  • Supporting other areas of the business regarding Code of Conduct policies, changes and protocols
  • Exhibiting continuous awareness of BHP´s Charter Values and Code of Conduct  within the company (trainings, workshops, seminars, etc.)
  • Supporting continuous engagement and collaboration with key stakeholders (Human Resources, Employee Relations, Health Safety & Environment, Corporate Affairs, contractors etc.)
  • Preparing Investigation Framework materials, delivering training to stakeholders and providing assistance to other areas
  • Supporting key projects to increase the human-centricity of the Company’s response to various forms of unethical conduct, including alternative resolution options and other innovative responses and empowering disadvantaged or minority groups within BHP to speak up and raise concerns about unfair, unethical or discriminatory treatment
  • Providing advice to Manager Ethics and Manager Americas Investigations and engaging with stakeholders directly relating to Ethics & Investigations and Code of Conduct issues in country (escalating to Manager Ethics and Manager Investigation Americas where necessary)

About You

Required:

  • Professional qualifications in legal, compliance, accounting

 

Recommended:

  • Experience working in global resources companies 
  • English and Spanish (preferred) speaking and written
  • Experiences working with Indigenous populations would be considered a strong asset

 

Pivotal Experiences for the role:

  • At least 4-5 years experience in legal or internal investigations, litigation, or compliance
  • Experience handling and managing matters of confidential nature as well as sensitive information
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, advisory and influencing with relevant stakeholder groups
  • Functional capability in legal and ethical conduct
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - confident, clear and succinct
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team player
  • Ability to work autonomously but also works effectively within a team and is a positive contribution to the team
  • Able to successfully engage people from different cultures/background to build trusted relationships
  • Problem solving - navigates through complexity and ambiguity to help others understand key issues
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to inclusion and diversity objectives and human rights, including empathy for the experience of minority groups within BHP who experience unfair or discriminatory treatment
  • Strategy and policy development skills, with the ability to quickly respond to public sentiment and drive change
  • Personal resilience
