Position Overview

Kiewit Power Engineers has an immediate opening for a motivated Transmission Engineer to join our growing Transmission team in the Power Delivery department in Houston,TX. As part of this team of highly specialized design professionals, you will support a variety of substation, transmission and distribution projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV in both engineering detailed design and Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) projects for clients throughout the country.

You will be part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the project execution process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to ensure smooth and safe construction operations.

This position is based out of Houston, TX.

Responsibilities

The Lead Transmission Engineer will
  • Lead and provide technical guidance over a collaborative team to understand scope, prepare deliverables, and provide project updates.
  • Coordinate with internal and external team members including coordination with other disciplines.
  • Provide supervision over the development of technical design packages
  • Perform technical quality reviews on engineering designs and deliverables
  • Mentor and supervise engineers and designers on all aspects of transmission line design including:
  • Developing design criteria, reports, design verification, and clearance tables for PLS-CADD
  • Building and modifying pole and tower models for PLS-CADD design
  • Developing construction assembly drawings, material selection, and structure loading packages for submittal to vendors.
  • Developing construction specification packages that include drawings, one lines, phasing, and standard installation specifications.
  • Present technical packages to clients and/or to other internal or external stakeholders
  • Attend and lead external and internal meetings
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and develop new business opportunities.
  • Coordinate with Project Manager to create and manage a project budget and schedule
  • Support business pursuit and capture efforts.
  • Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments
  • Perform project field design reviews or construction observations
  • Perform all other duties as assigned


Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical engineering, or related field
• Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred
• At least 6 years' experience designing and engineering transmission lines between 69kV and 765kV
• Proficient in PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole and PLS-Tower
• Knowledge of MFAD, LPILE, and NESC requirements as well as NESC, ASCE, IEEE, and RUS design standards

• Fast-paced office environment; must be able to interact professionally with all levels of management while simultaneously manage a diversified workload and challenging situations efficiently and effectively; regularly sit, stand, walk and talk and listen; occasionally lift and move objects up to 30 pounds.
• Travel in the U.S. and internationally (5-15%).
