Mako Mining Corp is a publicly listed gold mining, development and exploration company. The Company operates the high-grade San Albino gold mine in Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua, which ranks as one of the highest-grade open pit gold mines globally. Mako’s primary objective is to operate San Albino profitably and fund exploration of prospective targets on its district-scale land package. Mako Mining Corp is currently seeking a qualified person for the position of Mine Engineer-Strategic Planning with precious metals mining experience.

About this role – Mine Engineer-Strategic Planning

The role of Mine Engineer - Strategic Planning will contribute to and provide technical advice and guidance for all phases in mine evaluation and mine operations, be assigned large and complex engineering projects and programs, along with ensuring the successful conclusion of all mining phases within the appropriate time and cost. This role will proactively look at cost cutting, productivity enhancements, software evaluation, fleet re-sizing including autonomous options, major site construction projects, special projects, and mine life extensions, plus provide support to exploration and geology departments.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the Strategic Mine Planning team, responsible for long range mine planning, mine and phase design, annual budgeting, LOM waste and leach sequencing, and operations performance analysis. Assist and/or be responsible for aspects of long range mine planning, including but not limited to:

  • Long range mine plans
  • Mine plan reconciliations
  • Haulage model setup and validations
  • Long range dump and leach sequences
  • LOM dump and leach designs
  • Financial NPV analysis
  • Assessing possible expansion properties relating to Mako Mining projects o Assisting corporate technical personnel with projects as needed
  • Collaboration with stakeholders for long range mining plans
  • Mill feed sequencing, delivering and metal profiling
  • Cutoff grade analysis
  • Pit phase, highwall, and ramp design
  • Assisting Nicoz permitting team with requirements for permitting activities

Qualifications

  • 4 to 6 years of relevant experience - open to a more experienced candidate for a Senior Engineer level position (7 to 12 years).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering preferred. Related engineering degree considered.
  • Prior experience in a hard rock metal open pit mining operations strongly preferred.
  • Experience in budgeting and NPV analysis experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with resource modeling or mine planning software systems such as MineSight, and capable of utilizing industry knowledge to develop mine designs and production plans.

Requirements

  • Experience with mine planning software packages such as MineSight/Hexagon MPSO and MS3D, Minemax Scheduler, Vulcan, Leapfrog software.

  • Knowledge of drill-blast-load-haul open pit mining sequence.

  • Excellent communication, analytical, management and problem-solving skills are required.

  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Project, Word, Outlook, etc).

  • Valid Arizona Driver's License.

  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required with strong technical writing skills.

  • Must possess a strong work ethic, high energy level, and strong desire to do things safely and efficiently.

  • Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally, for varying durations and at times to remote locations.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to optimize workload and respond to top priorities with a sense of urgency.

Working Location
