Mining Engineer

POSITION: Mining Engineer (2+ YRS EXP REQ)

PAY RATE: $75,000-$115,000 per year with benefits

WORK HOURS: Monday-Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm

LOCATION: In Office – Salt Lake City, UT

Job Description:

Reporting to our Senior Mine Engineers and serving as a key member of the Forte Dynamics Mining team, this person will use his/her expertise and knowledge in open pit engineering to provide technical guidance and support for mining consulting projects. This position will be focused on building mine plans using shell optimization software, phase design, scheduling, and mine plan optimization. Understanding of open pit planning and possibly leach pad design and/or operation would be an asset. This position will also be focused on building tools to improve mine planning and optimization processes.

Responsibilities:

• Work collaboratively with software vendors, mining consultants, and mining technical staff to optimize mine design, mine optimization, and mine planning processes
• Provide technical support to operations and projects in areas of LOM mine design, mine planning, equipment selection, cost analysis, and implementation of best practices
• Proactively manage projects to achieve quality, schedule, budget, and safety
• Utilize project control tools to track and forecast project performance
• Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects
• Assist in cost estimation for projects
• Assist in preparation of proposals for engineering services
• Review and prepare reports, technical memorandums, and presentations
• Assist in procurement of equipment, supplies, and contracts
• Perform other duties as assigned

Skills/Experience/Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or related degree
• 2+ years of open-pit mining experience in a production role preferred
• Knowledge of underground mine planning and operations preferred
• Knowledge of metals & mining industry and effective mine designs, processes and development
• Ability to use a CAD software to design open-pit and dump shapes for input into mine plans and schedules
• Strong computer skills and experience with mining and production design/schedule software preferred
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally is required
• Project Management knowledge
• Strong written and verbal communication
• MS Office, especially Excel
• Ability work in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment
