The Drill and Blast Engineer is responsible for designing all drilling and blasting patterns in a safe and environmentally responsible manner including meeting production objectives, tracking costs, and assisting with the budgeting process. The D&B Engineer will provide technical guidance and support through the Blasting Supervisor for drillers and contractors. The D&B Engineer will support and assist the sites short and mid-range mine planning efforts.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Enforce company and department safety and occupational health policies and MSHA regulations.

•Responsible for continued adherence to RNMC Core Values - Zero Harm, Teamwork, Results Driven, Accountability and Courage.

•Responsible for employee adherence to company Rules for Life.

•Responsible for employee adherence to all Operations SOPs and Standards.

•Coordinate and monitor all drilling and blasting activities.

•Coordination of D&B activities with Drill and Blast Supervisor, Shift Supervisors, Mine Operations Superintendent, Geotechnical and Mine Engineers and Geology.

•Ensure D&B activities are aligned with mine designs, geotechnical activities and mine operations schedules.

•Serve as the liaison for the blasting contractor, including communication of company policies, accruals, safety audits, budgeting and scheduling.

•Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies including BATFE and MSHA.

•Produce daily shot schedule, pattern configuration, blasthole loading design, timing sequence, and equipment and personnel clearing radius.

•Coordinate the availability of drill consumables and blasting accessories.

•Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency of drilling and blasting practices.

•Work with the Mine Geology and Ore Control Departments to ensure that blasthole samples are representative and of sufficient size.

•Assistance in the development of annual drilling and blasting budgets.

•Ability to make changes in response to unplanned events.

•Regular seismic data collection and evaluation for implementation in wall control program.

•Willingness to perform other duties as necessary to ensure the success of the company.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

•A minimum of 5 years open pit mine experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

•Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Explosives Engineering or related fields (Geology, Civil Engineering) with a strong emphasis in drilling and blasting.

•Previous drilling or blasting design experience.

•Previous mine operations, drilling operations, blasting operations, or short range planning.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

•Ability to use AutoCAD and MineSight planning software.

•Ability to use Shotplus-I or Shotplus 5, White Seismograph Data Analysis V9+, or equivalent software.

•Ability to operate seismographs.

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

•N/A

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Ability to train and mentor others in drilling and blasting design.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

•Exerting 20 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly. Physical demand requirements are greater than that required for Light Work.
