Role:                                       PROJECTS COST ENGINEER

Location:                               Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Projects Cost Engineer will provide support to the operations and project teams in all cost control tasks and more specifically for the development, maintenance, and reporting of the overall project cost information, maintaining planned and actual cost and commitment for the overall project. They will work closely with the Project managers & Manager Project Controls to manage the cost requirements of the project scope and oversee changes to the project budget and forecasts. They will be responsible for highlighting any budget risks, issues, or concerns that may arise. They will also participate in the decision-making process to optimize the overall project scope cost objectives and advise on solutions on matters that could prevent meeting the project objectives. They will work with the appropriate project team representatives to make any cost-related changes or decisions as needed.

  • Direct, day-to-day supervision and oversight from the Manager Project Controls (PC), Project Managers and Company Financial team

Job Description:

  • Reviewing the cost estimate and Scheduling and ensure integration with project schedules to identify potential risks and action remedial actions timely
  • Ensuring enough data and detail are available to package estimate into control budget
  • Developing an integrated cost plan incorporating all stakeholders and technical functions with specific emphasis on integration with the Schedule Management Plan, implement and manage the cost plan to ensure enough cost control
  • Compiling and review project cost breakdown structures
  • Ensuring compliance to cost control procedures applicable to type of project and life cycle phase and collaborate regarding continuous evaluation and updating thereof to ensure latest trends and developments are considered
  • Implementation of Cost Management System
  • Preparing and manage forward man loading of contractor
  • Monitoring all cost-flows, providing accurate reports of progress, variance to plan and root causes and recommend remedial actions where necessary to ensure adherence to budgets
  • Monitoring the greater environment in order to identify potential risks to the cost and financial model and submit recommendations to the relevant stakeholders for action
  • Forecasting each month ensuring alignment with schedule and considering vendor inputs, site instructions, claim forecasts, tariff increases and volume increase
  • Implementation and management of change management process
  • Asset capitalization implementation
  • Assisting in preparation for Project Audits
  • Preparation of Payment Certificates
  • Preparation of cost reports per contractor for monthly cost meetings
  • Will also be Involved in preparing monthly reports Supports project reviews (Execution Phase Reviews – EPRs/Internal Asset Audits and other 3rd party audits)
  • Operates day-to-day ensuring that activities are prioritized in line with broader objectives
  • Ensures that they are managing their time effectively and adhering to deadlines

SKILLS / JOB KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A recognized bachelor’s degree in engineering or project management or equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience within cost control, or related industry
  • Relevant experience in underground mining is considered an asset
  • Strong understanding of quality management processes and systems, ISO standards and auditing processes related to major project delivery or program management
  • Working knowledge of engineering, contracts & procurement, construction, commissioning, project controls, health & safety, environment & community and risk multi-discipline workflows and interactions for large capital projects.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • High attention to detail, motivation, and commitment to quality outcomes.
  • Ability to operate effectively and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment utilizing agile methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and quickly comprehend new concepts and technologies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders including functional managers and discipline leads on the project, clients, outside vendors and contractors
  • Demonstrated strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills including root cause analysis training
  • Ability to effectively work with the larger team to drive continuous improvement on the project
  • Ability to foster an inclusive environment for their team while grounding to the Jansen core values
  • Ability to communicate effectively across various stakeholder groups

In the near future, we will also produce copper and cobalt from Mutoshi in Kolwezi. Our assets in the DRC include:

  • The Etoile mine and processing plant, Etoile phase II project plant expansion;
  • The Mutoshi mine and processing plant which is under construction; and
  • A significant portfolio of mining concessions.
