We are looking for a Senior Underground Mining Engineer for the Underground Drainage Galleries who will be responsible for supporting the operations of the drainage galleries beneath the Bingham Canyon surface mine in order to ensure that the goals of the drainage galleries are achieved.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced and engaged professional to work collaboratively with all operational and functional departments.

Reporting to the drainage gallery manager and working for the Drainage Gallery Operations, you will be responsible for
  • Monitoring and reporting on contractor performance within the Drainage Gallery.
  • Interfacing with the contractor on engineering processes;
  • Monitoring and management of ventilation system and documentation;
  • Monitoring mine services including compressed air, electrical reticulation, mine process water, dewater pumping operations, mine radio system, and communications network;
  • Interfacing with contractor on maintenance and/or extension of compressed air, electrical reticulation, mine process water, dewater pumping operations, mine radio system, and communications network;
  • Staying abreast of open pit planning and operations and interfacing with surface operations regarding logistical access issues, blasting interactions and electrical supply to the underground areas;
  • Being available to provide knowledge and service as required to resolve issues or address concerns related to ventilation, compressed air, electrical reticulation, mine process water, dewater pumping, radio, and communications network ;
  • Expanding position-relevant knowledge and skills through continuing self-directed or employer-sponsored professional development.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field;
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant underground mine engineering experience;
  • Knowledge of underground mine engineering practices, safety regulations and standards, ventilation, and mine services;
  • Knowledge of project management practices including budgeting;
  • Strong planning, organizational, management and communications skills;
  • Effectively present to a variety of groups including technical, professional, business and community groups; Proficient with, AutoCAD/Deswik/Vulcan, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of fiber-optic, ethernet and Wi-Fi networks supporting the underground communications system will be an asset
