About the Role

Schedule: Full time, permanent, working a hybrid office and remote model.

Position Reports To: Corporate Controller

Position Overview:

Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, the Manager, Tax, will manage the quarterly and annual provision process, manage the process of filing the corporate income tax returns and information returns. In addition, this role will be responsible for managing the relationship with tax authorities and coordinating tax audits, as well as managing PWC, the Company’s tax advisors and Deloitte, the Company’s external auditors. This role will provide strategic tax planning on the Company’s structure, planning tax pools, etc.

Key Responsibilities
  • Management of the quarterly and annual provision process. Involves the preparation of the quarterly and annual tax provision working papers on a timely basis
  • Responsibility to manage the process of filing the annual corporate income tax and information returns. Manage the coordination of information needed to prepare the tax return
  • Manage controls over tax process to meet SOX requirements including documentation and assisting internal audit department with testing of tax controls. Responsibility to ensure continued compliance of SOX controls
  • Responsible for developing and implementing tax planning and global tax strategies and advise on tax issues as New Gold executes its strategy with respect to acquisitions and divestitures
  • Responsible for managing the relationship with tax authorities and coordinating tax audits, as well as managing PWC, the Company’s tax advisors and Deloitte, the Company’s external auditors
  • Perform ad hoc tax related duties or special projects as assigned. This includes review of tax models related to potential acquisitions
  • Responsible for researching and staying abreast of tax changes and upcoming requirements and advising management on the impacts and appropriate tax strategy accordingly
  • Additional duties as required


Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in relevant degree, ideally with a CPA designation
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience, preferably obtained from working in the mining sector
  • CICA in Depth Tax Course (Levels I and II) preferred
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of Canadian tax requirements and strategy

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills, enabling successful collaboration with a cross-section of teams
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to consider tax issues across functions to provide sound advice to senior management
  • Proficiency with MS Office, with in-depth knowledge of Excel and Power Point, proficiency in SAP and consolidation software packages an asset
  • Experience working with foreign jurisdictions
  • Strong operational mining knowledge a positive
