Job Description:

Summary:

Barr is seeking a senior-level mining hydrogeologist to help with challenging projects related to water supply evaluations, investigation, and remediation of groundwater; mine planning, development, and reclamation; and groundwater-surface water interaction. In addition to working with Barr's mining clients, the successful candidate may support projects across Barr's client portfolio, including the fuels, power, public, and manufacturing sectors. Project responsibilities may include leading project teams to assist with design and implementation of complex hydrogeologic investigations with a focus on fractured bedrock settings, data interpretation and conceptual site model development, aquifer test performance and analysis, work plan and report preparation, response action planning, staff mentoring, tracking financial performance, and consulting with regulatory agencies and clients. Business development activities may include developing proposals, conference presentations, networking, and informing clients of the full range of services offered by Barr.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or engineering
  • 10 years of work experience directly related to hydrogeologic evaluations and/or remediation of groundwater, including in fractured rock settings
  • Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one jurisdiction
  • Experience designing and implementing hydrogeologic field investigation activities, including aquifer tests
  • Experience with borehole geophysics, flow logging, and packer testing
  • Familiarity with the use of hydrogeologic data to support groundwater model development and calibration
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, ability to write well, and attention to detail
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or engineering with an emphasis in hydrogeology
  • Experience or coursework in groundwater chemistry and solute fate and transport
  • Experience developing technical analyses to support environmental review and/or permitting for mining projects
  • Experience with geologic modeling and 3D visualization
  • Recognized expertise in mining hydrogeology, demonstrated by regularly presenting at conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.


A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Salt Lake City, Utah; Duluth, Minnesota; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Hibbing, Minnesota; Reno, Nevada; or Denver, Colorado, offices.

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.

Compensation:

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $85,000-$120,000/year. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus.
