Job Description

Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all area's of the treatment plant, tailings dams, and laboratory, with primary responsibility for the operation of the laboratory and the provision of technical assistance to the Production Metallurgist.

Job Responsibilities

• Day to day accountabilities for the Metallurgical Lab ensuring that all KPI's and compliances are met.
• Promote and motivate Safety, Health and Environmental awareness.
• Process plant sampling and sample preparations;
• Perform metallurgical test works as directed by the plant metallurgist;
• Analyse, record and report results on test works;
• Maintain accurate records of all data generated from the laboratory.
• Assist with metallurgical accounting and daily reporting as requested;
• Assist the plant metallurgist in daily, weekly and end of month duties.
• Directly responsible for Metallurgical Lab areas.
o Set up & operate laboratory equipment, make up chemical as directed by plant Metallurgist;
o Regularly inspect all Metallurgical Lab and storage areas to ensure continuity of operations and housekeeping.
o Ensure that safety devices are in good working order;
o Maintain adequate stocks of reagents (silver nitrate, rhodanine indicator, etc) and lab equipment and consumable (sieves, buckets, agitators, etc) to meet the needs of the laboratory and the processing plant.
• Maintain an overall awareness of the process conditions in all areas and supply this information, on request to supervisor.
• Notify supervisors of any maintenance or safety work required.
• Maintain the operational condition and calibration of process analysers (Cyanide analyzer, pH and DO meters).
• Maintain processing plant reagents QAQC;
o Conduct routine lime activity testing.
• Monitor and measure the performance of processing plant equipment (Cyclones, interstage screens;).
• Assist the conditions monitoring crew with the liners measurement of the crushers, SAG mill and Ball mills.
• Attend weekly staff safety meetings and daily crew pre-start.
• The incumbent is required to carry out their duties diligently at all times, with the highest regard for the safety of themselves, other employees and for the environment.
• All duties must be carried out in accordance with relevant legislation;
o TMLSA Safety, Health and Environmental policies;
o TMLSA HSE 0001Standard Operating Manual - Rules and Regulations Manual
o TMLSA Environmental Management Plan (EMP) requirements; as well as departmental task procedures and manager/supervisor instructions.
• The incumbent will be responsible for independently completing his weekly tasks and reporting results as required to the metallurgical team.
• The incumbent will assist in other tasks or routines as required by the Plant metallurgist.

Education ,Experience and Skills

Mandatory skills and requirements for this position:
• Minimum Baccalaureate + 3 in Metallurgy or similar
• Good communications skills in French and English
• Current driver's license preferable
• 2 years industrial experience, preferably in the mining industry.
• Experience with chemical analysis techniques and instruments
• Previous exposure to process analytical systems ;
• Experience with chemical analysis techniques and instruments;
• Database exposure required, proficiency desirable;
• Experience working in a metallurgical or analytical laboratory.
• Basic knowledge of hand tools and machinery;
• Hazardous Materials awareness;
• Computer literacy, specifically Microsoft Programs.
