HeidelbergCement desires a consistent, structured, Group-wide approach to Fleet Management.  Mobile Equipment is a significant capital and operating cost and an important operational performance driver.  The objective is to drive best-in-class cost efficiencies and productivity by increasing transparency, building a structured approach to planning, and managing the fleet. All these elements require diligent execution and follow-up.  The key attributes for success are strong leadership, relationship building and change management capabilities.  Strong execution and bottom-line focus are required to achieve committed cost and capital saving targets. This is a Global role driving change across the Group — a high visibility, high impact role. Since there are no direct reports to this position, the role requires intensive collaboration with the businesses, Area CCMs and other Corporate Functions, such as Safety, ESG, Procurement, CCC and Finance.  

What you'll get to do
  • Fleet Management Scope
    • the leading role for mobile equipment in the Group (~ 6,500 pieces of mining equipment all product lines)
    • scope covers heavy equipment such as wheel loaders, excavators, dump trucks and dozers
    • includes business lines of aggregates, asphalt, and concrete with strong interface to cement
    • Strong relationships are required with all OEMs to ensure we are at the cutting edge of maintenance and operating practices as well as understanding and leveraging ‘early adopter' opportunities for innovation in machine and fleet management technologies.
  • Standards, Guidelines, Procedure, Data Collection, KPIs and Reporting
    • Create and maintain standards and guidelines including equipment replacement, overhauls, maintenance, equipment health & safety, equipment specifications by type and application
    • The creation and production of clearly defined appropriate KPIs to drive and track improvement
    • Fleet Transparency: create comprehensive mobile equipment database for local, area and global use. The database must be user friendly and IIOT connected where possible
  • Performance Improvement (PI), Planning & Execution
    • ensure 5-year fleet plans exist by site including size/number of equipment and prioritization of capital
    • create and implement effective local process assessments driving improvements in operating performance, maintenance management, costs, right sizing, and productivity
    • ensure fleet performance is reviewed on a regular management cycle with the relevant area and country stakeholders
    • Support the business to maintain minimum standards that enhance safety and longevity of HME
    • Implement strategy(ies) that keep pace with changes to technology, energy, digital performance applications
    • Deliver committed cost and Capex saving targets
  • Cross-functional and Peer Support
    • broadly build contacts and relationships to ensure strong support and effective implementation
    • Strong focus on execution, collaborating closely with local Fleet Managers in the businesses and Area CCMs.
    • liaise and align with other Group Functions - Safety, ESG, Purchasing, CCC and Finance
  • Training (In consultation with Aggregates Academy and Fleet Area Heads)
    • Build on existing training materials and create new as required that support the above activities
    • Monitor the pipeline of qualified staff within the areas based on required Process Element competence

  • Fluent English, verbal & written, additional languages a strong plus
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams), SAP experience a plus
  • Formal qualifications in Engineering, Business, Logistics or related field or equivalent extensive practical experience in mining, maintenance, fleet management etc.
  • Field experience, ideally in quarry/mining operations, and good understanding of the business needs
