ASARCO LLC is a fully integrated miner, smelter, and refinery of copper in the United States with over 2,800 employees spanning 5 mine sites in Arizona and Texas.
Location:
ASARCO Ray mining operation, a 250,000 TPD hard rock open pit copper mine located 64 miles southeastbetween Phoenix and 70 miles northeast Tucson, Arizona.

We are looking for motivated students with a strong interest in the mining industry. Our internship program is 10 weeks long, in which you will receive important industry training and get involved in meaningful real-world projects like planning a program, designing a process, or implementing technology. The culmination of your program will include an opportunity to present your work to management.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
Frequent sitting, standing, walking and some exposure to dust, noise, and extreme temperatures* (*not for all majors)
Duration: requires at least a ten-week internship commitment between mid-May and mid-August.
Schedule: 8-hour shiftMonday to Friday
Duration: Temporary/ Seasonal

Position: Mechanical Engineer Intern will be assisting the Engineering Department
Duties:
- Establish maintenance process mapping around critical equipment
- Assist with inventory management
- Build electronic files of drawings
- Build electronic files of maintenance manuals
- Work with AutoCAD updating as-built construction and/or plant drawings.
- Work with the Project Managers/Engineers as they oversee project design and implementation.
- Research specific assigned items as pertaining to ongoing plant operations.
- Make presentations to in-house engineering and management groups as required.
- Evaluate assigned field problems (real or theoretical) and report back as required.
- Meet everyday safety goals.
- Various other projects as assigned
Education Requirements:
- Candidate must be enrolled in an accredited school or university and currently pursuing a degree in Mining, Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineer, Mining Technology, or other related degrees.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities.
- Time management skills in performing multiple projects with various team members.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively present findings and make recommendations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products
