Summary

Job Title: Engineer in Training

Location: Brule Mine / Willow Creek Mine / Wolverine Mine (British Columbia)

Schedule / Terms of Employment: This is a full time (40 hours/week), permanent position

Primary Purpose

The Mining Engineer in Training is responsible for learning aspects of the seven key areas of mining engineering (short-range planning, drill and blast, geotechnical, efficiency processes, coal quality and geology, surveying and permitting) while supporting the engineering department.

Responsibilities

  • To obtain sound knowledge of multiple areas of mining engineering through our operating mines and future projects.
  • To be willing to learn and develop as an EIT and working towards their P.Eng.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • B.Sc. Mining Engineering.
  • Registered EIT working towards their P. Eng.

Technical Competencies and Skills

  • The drive to want to learn the seven key areas of mining engineering as outlined in Primary Purpose
  • Good interpersonal, verbal, written, and problem-solving communication skills
  • Have some experience with computerized mine planning software (planning for new mines, mine production and operations), but familiarity with Minesight Mine Planning software preferred
  • Forward thinking, being able to think outside the box, with ability to contribute to the team
  • Mathematical aptitude, capable of developing solutions to three dimensional problems, ability to sequence and schedule complex inter-related activities.
  • Experience in achieving outstanding performance in the areas of Health, Safety and Environmental stewardship.
  • Oral and written communication skills enabling the writing and presentation of high-quality reports and other presentation material.
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Quick learner and adaptable to an ever-changing environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Proven initiative and self-motivation.

Work Location / Travel

  • Bus transportation is provided from Tumbler Ridge, BC & Chetwynd, BC
