UG Mine Projects Coordinator

Position Description:

To manage aspects of the development, production and construction projects in a cost-effective manner. They will also provide smooth coordination and control of activities across all underground sections of the operation at the direction of the UG mining manager through the UG projects superintendent.

Responsibilities:
  • Enforce compliance to all applicable environmental, health and safety Acts, policies and
  • procedures and ensure that all workers work in the manner and with the protective devices,
  • measures and procedures required.
  • Make certain adequate accident prevention practices are maintained by reviewing and
  • recommending improvements and procedures.
  • Ensure all hazards are reported and investigated in accordance with relevant procedures and
  • appropriate remedial actions implemented in a timely manner.
  • Provide employees with a safe and healthy work environment by ensuring proper training,
  • following and understanding of the operating procedures, PPE, operation of equipment and
  • effective communication.
  • Complete all accident investigation reports, inspections, 5-point audits, Job observations,
  • tours, 5-point safety cards and forward them to the appropriate personnel.
  • Compliance to all monthly routine checks (fire extinguisher, R/S, eye wash station and
  • powder mags)
  • Hold daily safety meetings to communicate safety instruction, information and gather
  • concerns to be addressed. Document these meetings and concerns and forward to the safety
  • department
  • Work with the planners on daily, weekly and monthly production plans ensuring availability
  • of manpower, equipment, tools, service and resources.
  • Identify and organize the resources required for these plans, equipment, personnel, and
  • services to achieve the established production targets. Organize these schedules to maximize
  • the utilization rate for each personnel and equipment.
  • Ensure adequate material available in order to maximize productivity
  • Understand and follow the plan (maintenance and production)
  • Administer all production plans in order to obtain and sustain desired operating performance,
  • meters advanced, tones hoisted, areas drilled and blasted.
  • Schedule daily activities at line up to ensure efficient utilization of personnel, equipment,
  • material and resources
  • Perform physical inspections to determine if work meets company standards in regard to
  • quality, production, and safety.
  • Recommend measures or changes to improve production methods, equipment performance
  • and use of equipment and personnel to increase efficiency of department and entire mine.
  • Ensure all work completed supports activities of the subsequent shifts; communicate these
  • activities during shift change and through the shift log.
  • Complete operational checks monitoring quality and productivity ensuring established
  • standards are met.
  • Be accountable to meet production, construction, development, and project targets.
  • Enforce compliance consistently and fairly all applicable rules, regulations, policies and
  • procedures.
  • Anticipate and implement solution to problems that may occur in the operations through
  • trouble shooting and problem solving.
  • Implement and adhere to all company policies and directives.
  • Ensure relevant discipline is applied promptly
  • Optimize the use of operating consumables to minimize cost
  • Actively participate in the Continuous Improvement activities to improve all areas of
  • the mine. Ensure that these activities are aligned in the same direction as the company.
  • Promote and encourage supervision in establishing the continuous improvement culture.
  • Identify Continuous Improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure that all service contractors have the competencies and qualifications required to work safely
  • and productively within the areas of responsibility, and that they understand and comply with
  • the requirements of their position description.
  • Inspect project sites throughout the UG, including all production related activities and ensure contractor adherence to company procedures, guidelines and any relevant government legislation.
  • Manage all aspects of the employee handbook so that it is followed and applied fairly and
  • consistently.
  • Review 5 point safety cards and ensure all issues are correct outstanding items are followed up for
  • completion.
  • Maintain proper working relations between mine department with all other departments
  • including contractor relationships
  • Communicate with Manager, Supervisors, Departments and other employees to review
  • direction, resolve problems, recommend priorities and corrective measures to improve
  • operations and conditions of entire mine.
  • Attend morning planning meetings with Operations, Mining Manager and other
  • management personnel for direction and communication
  • Follow maintenance priorities
  • Ensure operating objectives and targets are effectively communicated to project crews.
  • Assure that the highest standards of Environmental and Safety performance are adhered within your respective crew and shift
  • Ensure that all workers work in a manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Regulations of this Company.
  • Apply operational discipline and monitor compliance to MOS processes.
  • Enforce operational standards
  • Plan and co-ordinate the required production activities and assist advise and co-ordinate resources to minimize un-planned downtime to allow production to meet their budgeted tonnes and meters in accordance with the Mine priorities indicated on the Fewzion Plan.
  • Do not walk past any deviation to standard and action all non-compliances immediately.
  • Liaise with Department Superintendents regarding the progress through shift and communicate any issues going forward
  • Preparing for oncoming and subsequent shifts.
  • During each shift monitor safety issues, mine environment, review the area performance against Shift and Project Plan, production performance, maintenance works, location of key items of equipment
  • Action all incidents or investigations on shift and notify relevant departments as required


Qualifications:
  • 10 years or more of underground mining experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Mining Engineer or equivalent relatable degree or experience is an asset
  • 2 years or more of project management experience is an asset
  • Understanding of technical and operating processes relevant to mine planning and scheduling
  • Sound understanding of Ontario mining regulation and statutory responsibilities
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
