Job description:
General Role Purpose (brief description of this job)
Oversees Cobre Panama's day-to-day Accounts Payable functions, ensuring that all functions are carried out in accordance with the company's contractual obligations (local and FQM Group), as well as compliance with all relevant legal requirements.
Qualifications (required for job) & Knowledge & Experience
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or a related field.
  • A minimum of ten years of relevant financial experience, including supervision of accounting functions.
  • Supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to train others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with all stakeholders.
  • Strength in planning and organisation.
  • Proven skills in troubleshooting and fault analysis.
  • Strong ability to adhere to standards and hold accountability to meet deadlines for service delivery.
  • Ability to work to a high standard under pressure in a sometimes stressful environment.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Computer fluency is a must with expertise in MS Office particularly Excel and Word
  • Fluency in English is required with competency in Spanish highly regarded.
    Core Specific Responsibilities & Expected Deliverables
    • Ensuring that the Accounts Payable processes are implemented in order to provide timely, accurate, and relevant data for the payment of suppliers, to reduce the risk of a lawsuit, and to facilitate supplier relationships, as well as the fulfillment of all legal and contractual obligations.
    • Establish strong working relationships with all interested parties (particularly logistics and acquisitions departments) so that their information needs are clearly understood and met.
    • Ongoing management and improvement of the supplier payment process, mitigating the risk of supplier payment error while maintaining adequate function segregation.
    • Ensure that the month-end accounting procedures are completed and that the month-end closing and the presentation of related reports are completed within the group's deadlines.
    • Ensure that appropriate internal controls are implemented in accordance with the operational environment.
    • Coordination of Accounts Payable requirements, both external and internal audit processes.
    • Act as a link between operational and project teams to aid in reconciling budgeted and actual spending.
    • Providing guidance on legislation and practices that include staying up to date on all key legislative and development changes, as well as advising on potential impact management.
    • Coordinate with the treasury team to ensure that sufficient funds are available to meet all obligations based on effective monthly forecasts.
    • Providing monthly information to assist in the calculation and preparation of capital expenditure budgets for corporate treasury.
    • Creating a cohesive and efficient accounting team within the company.
    • Ensure that the team has the necessary skills and experience to support the business's needs.
    • Overseeing and directing the team's activities to ensure that business objectives are met.
    • Promote and champion cost saving measures without compromising service delivery.
    • Adhere to Cobre Panama Occupational Health and Safety policy and procedures.
    • Perform other related duties as required.

        Operational Requirements
        Cobre Panama is a remote site. This exciting position focuses on driving and delivering operational accountability and ownership across various units at Cobre Panama site. Rosters and working hours may vary depending on business requirements.
        Environmental Responsibilities
        • Comply with current environmental regulations in Panama
        • Comply with the commitments contained in the Environmental Impact Studies and other additional studies in this regard, which apply to your area and activities.
        • Comply with the provisions of the Minera Panama Environmental Management System.
