Summary

The Control and Automation (C&A) Engineer provides engineering services to large and small projects. The C&A Engineer is responsible for the execution of the engineering related to a specific project including, but not limited to preparing design criteria, engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports.

The Control and Automation Engineer, reports to the Lead Control and Automation Engineer on a large project and to the Project Manager or Engineering Manager on a small project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Engineering Manager or Lead Control and Automation Engineer, as applicable, with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule.
  • Prepare, subject to the approval of the Lead Control and Automation Engineer or Engineering Manager, technical documentation required for the execution of the project, including but not limited to general layout drawings, design criteria, design calculations, preliminary studies, value engineering studies, process flow sheets, standard specifications, standard detail drawings, construction and/or fabrication drawings, equipment lists, technical specifications, systems requirements specifications, asbuilt documentation, data sheets etc. at all times subject to a minimum of deliverables indicated in the Project LifeCycle Process gate review requirements or as negotiated.
  • Specify, select, configure and program the control system, Programmable Logic Controller/ Decentralized Control System (PLC/DCS) or any other system as required.
  • Ensure that Piping and Instrumentation Designs ( P&IDs) are technically correct and meeting industry, Hatch and project standards.
  • Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL and other process safety related reviews as required.
  • Ensure that the design is operable, maintainable and safe according to the applicable local laws and client safety standards.
  • Ensure that the design is delivered according to the time schedule.
  • Promote value engineering on the project with particular emphasis on energy management.
  • Manage and coordinate with the Lead Control and Automation Engineer or Engineering Manager the progress of the engineering work in accordance with the project scope, schedule and procedures.
  • Review shop/manufacturing drawings to ensure conformity with engineering designs.
  • Review other discipline drawings/documents and vendor data to ensure conformity with engineering designs and C&A design criteria.
  • Interface with other discipline engineers to ensure technical and physical interfaces between C&A and other disciplines are managed.
  • Follow and comply with Hatch and/or project design change management procedures.
  • Manage and treat C&A supply packages or contract packages as mini projects; managing the scope, schedule and cost aspects of the relevant package. Actively manage the relationships with vendors to ensure that suitable outcomes are achieved for all parties concerned.
  • Following the award of contracts and purchase orders as instructed, monitor the fabrication and construction work to ensure that it is executed in accordance with the engineering design.
  • Assist the client and lead engineer with respect to the decision making process in terms of vendor packages and vendor suitability.
  • Assist with the stewardship of the progress of the engineering work packages to ensure that project budgets and schedules are being met. Assist with implementing corrective action as required.
  • Assist with the facilitation of quality audits of engineering work and ensure that remedial work in accordance with the project procedures and the quality assurance plan is performed.
  • As a member of the C&A engineering team ensure that the checking of documentation and interdisciplinary coordination is implemented in accordance with project procedures.
  • When requested, assist with the preparation of draft monthly engineering progress reports for incorporation into the engineering monthly report.
  • Assist in the commissioning of site as required.


Qualifications and Experience

Essential
  • A recognized degree in electric/electronic/relevant engineering from an accredited college or university or a technical qualification with suitable practical experience
  • Registration as a professional engineer or technician/technologist with the relevant regions professional engineering body/council or registration as a candidate professional in engineering actively working towards professional
  • Minimum five years project engineering experience
  • Technical exposure to the equipment technologies related to the project
  • Good understanding of Hatch systems and workflows as they relate to the C&A discipline
  • Awareness of Hatch’s Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) policy and standards
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision
  • Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards
  • Good safety awareness.


Preferred
  • Sound knowledge of Hatch’s 3D data centric design systems
  • Sound knowledge of Hatch’s engineering management systems
  • Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise others
  • Experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects.
