Job Description:

Summary:

The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing mechanical engineering and related technical expertise. Assignments may include collecting field information; completing engineering calculations and analyses; selecting equipment and components; preparing design drawings and specifications; writing technical reports; preparing sketches for system arrangement; developing design drawings; and preparing cost estimates.

These activities will be related to the design of industrial mechanical systems, such as process piping and pumping, industrial ventilation, industrial dust collection, industrial machinery and equipment, bulk materials handling, and building systems. The work will focus on mines and mineral processing plants. Other work may involve fuel, oil, and natural gas facilities; industrial processing facilities; power plants; and other heavy industrial environments. This position will require short-term, out-of-town travel.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with academic coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described above
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within one year
  • Experience with CAD design software- preferably in either AutoCAD, Cadworks, and/ or SolidWorks
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Willingness to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative
  • Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of relevant work experience
  • Bulk materials handling experience (e.g., conveyors, chutes, dust collection, etc.)
  • Minerals processing plant experience


A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Salt Lake City, Utah, office .

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
