What You’ll Do:

Champion Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards. Comply with all Federal and State regulations and protocols for safety, blasting agent on-site inventory, or storage and blasting.

Collaborate. Work with Mine Planning and Geology support roles to ensure mine plans and wall stability practices are followed. Work with Area Managers and Drilling & Blasting Manager to update Standard Shot Designs and draft Tier III Variances as needed.

Champion Continuous Improvement. Provide support to Area Blasters with blast design adjustments to improve cost or shot performance. Read, analyze, and interpret seismographic results and recommend any necessary shot design adjustments accordingly. Test and apply new technology and determine the value and applicable use for any new systems related to drilling & blasting.

Audit Accuracy. Measure and audit accuracy of drilling operations and drill logs. Maintain proficiency with instruments such as laser profiler, bore track, and stemalign.

Work With Vendors. Work with vendors to ensure bulk truck issues, scheduling conflicts, product performance, etc. are addressed and meet Vulcan’s expectations for service.

Champion Community Relations. Utilize signature analysis computer software to help address neighbor concerns. Assist Plant Managers and seismograph service providers with neighbor visits and complaint resolution.

Perform Administrative Duties. Perform administrative duties related to the blasting program, such as reviewing shot reports for accuracy and completion and monitoring seismograph reports for any trends or irregularities.
Skills You’ll Need :

Education. Must have your high school diploma or its equivalent. Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain state blasting license. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain ATF employee possessor status.

Experience. Must have a combination of drilling and blasting related experience and technical training. Must have either a minimum of 5 years of blasting experience in quarries or your Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering and a minimum of 2 years of blasting experience.

Functional and Safety Knowledge. Must have acceptable performance, maintenance, and safety history. Must have knowledge of mine drilling and blasting standards, production techniques, and equipment. Must have knowledge of safety and environmental regulations (MSHA, ATF, OSHA).

Flexibility. Must be able to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.

Technology Skills. Must have strong computer skills and the ability to use trade-related software and technical instruments.

Interpersonal Skills. Must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
