About the opportunity

The preferred candidate can be based at either one of our labs in Auckland, Mount Manganui, Wellington, or Christchurch. There is a large component of travel involved working in our mobile labs within NZ and the Pacific.

The Senior Laboratory Technician - Mobile Laboratory is responsible for:
  • supervising laboratory activities to meet business and customer expectations
  • maximise the effective use of laboratory resources and ensure the laboratories are managed to the standard required by IANZ registration and company ISO 17025, 9001 + 14001.
  • provide technical and quality support in the operation of the mobile laboratories
  • to supervise the execution of laboratory and site testing in accordance with documented procedures and methods while maintaining the Downer values of how we make decisions and perform our day to day tasks -through collaboration, excellence, courage, and integrity.
  • focus on maintaining the equipment and mobile laboratory facilities throughout New Zealand and the Pacific to support the current client base.

Day to day tasks will include Planning and Development, Laboratory Operation, Material Testing and Product Design, Administration, People Management & Development, Training and Development and the support, implementation and adherence to H&S policies and procedures.

About you

The successful candidate will have proven experience of managing delivery of technical services in a commercial environment with a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.

Experience in the contracting industry/laboratory environment in the testing of either, binders, aggregate, soils, or asphalt would be advantageous.

You will need a proven work ethic, be a people person with a flair for building relationships with people, in addition to:
  • Eagerness to learn and strong attention to detail
  • A mechanical and technically inclined mind
  • A team player who takes initiative
  • A current full Class 1 driver's license
  • Flexibility to travel ((Travel location depends on the projects we secure going forward, but typical off-shore travel to the Pacific are generally between 4-5 weeks away, followed by one week off back at your base)
