About the role

We are looking for a Procurement Specialist - Local Services Rio Tinto Borates and Lithium to support the Rio Tinto Minerals California Operations located in Boron and Wilmington CA. Working directly with a mining and processing team and recommending strategies and creative supply chain solutions.

Rio Tinto Procurement provides supply chain services that deliver value to the Rio Tinto Group through the strategic sourcing and buying of goods and services for all operations and businesses. Playing a fundamental role, value is achieved through uniformed processes, e-technology, increased corporate social responsibility, and measurable saving for the Group.

This role is a great opportunity for an energetic and enthusiastic individual to work for a global company. Working 5 days on and 2 off the roster and reporting to Service Delivery Manager:
  • Procurement project leader for Engineering Projects and Capital Equipment.
  • Creation and maintenance of stakeholder approved Category Strategy for relevant categories
  • Ensure qualification of suppliers and compliance with Rio Tinto Procurement Policy.
  • Preparation and management of Request for Information and Request for Quotation documents
  • Preparation of comparative analysis and sourcing recommendations resulting from proposals received.
  • Lead business-critical negotiations and effectively secure outcomes that align to strategic procurement priorities and provide leadership skills to support teams to develop negotiation skills.
  • Draft and execute required contracts and master service agreements
  • Generating creative supply chain solutions that balance people, goals, methods, policies, and procedures that integrate with requirements.
  • Generating new ideas to improve procurement outcomes and guide others in resolving complex issues based on existing solutions and procedures.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, statistical analysis, communications is desirable
  • A combination of related supply chain training, purchasing practices, contract management, or considerable work experience may be considered an equivalent
  • 2+ years of project management and management of material resources
  • Energetic and curious individual who will challenge the specifications prepared by the technical teams
  • Project Procurement knowledge or significant Procurement background
  • Excellent communication skills to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Advanced negotiation and persuasion skills
  • Active listening and learning skills
  • Critical and analytical thinking
  • Presentation and operations analysis
  • Health and safety consciousness, adhere to a strict code of ethical conduct, empower employees to work independently and make decisions
  • Experience with SAP Materials Management is an advantage
