About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a full-time Process Control Engineer to join our Mount Milligan Mine operations site.

This is a camp-based position, with a rotation of 14 days on / 14 days off, with a 12-hour daily schedule.

The Process Control Engineer will report to the Electrical and Instrumentation Superintendent.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintaining and upgrading DCS system including regulatory and supervisory process control software and hardware
  • Developing process control logic at site and tuning control loops
  • Providing maintenance support team for integrating instruments into DeltaV control system
  • Troubleshooting process control issues and modify logic where required
  • Taking responsibility for routine activities involving design, coding, testing, debugging and documentation of process control solutions
  • Identifying control strategies and performance criteria to meet process and maintenance needs
  • Analyzing and testing control algorithms and propose solutions to optimize them
  • Developing innovative control strategies to help maximize throughput and recovery
  • Developing solutions, implementing logic, and analyzing data
  • Serving as technical lead in optimization/process control and automation in Mill Operations
  • Adhering to and applying all health, safety, and environment directives


About You

To qualify for the Process Control Engineer role, you must have 5+ year experience in a similar role, and a Diploma or degree in process control or another discipline relevant to process control, such a IE Electrical Engineer or technologist specializing in instrumentation and automation/process control or Systems Integrator. In addition, experience in process control is preferred, however a graduate degree or diploma in process control may be considered in place experience.

T he following skills and experiences will also be critical to successfully performing this role:
  • Experience with administrating network communication (servers, smart switches, patching, MS Server) and virtualization
  • Experience with maintaining and troubleshooting OPC, Profibus (C441, C445, and VFDs), Modbus TCP/IP (Multilin IECs), and Etheret/IP (PLCs) communications
  • Experience with managing and maintaining DeltaV hardware (controllers, IO cards, and charms) and software (User Manager, DeltaV Operate, and Control Studio)
  • Competence in developing regulatory process control solutions using Function Block Diagrams, Sequential Function Charts, and Structured Text
  • Extensive knowledge in PLCs (Allan-Bradley), Data Acquisition and Reporting (OSisoft PI, OPC, MS SQL Servers), ABB 800xA DCS systems

T he following skills and experiences will also be considered assets:
  • Knowledge of Ladder Logic
  • Knowledge of AMS
  • Familiarity with Metso OCS-4D expert system
  • Knowledge of APC and advanced regulatory solutions (constraint and fuzzy control)
