The Senior Project Engineer reports to the RACE Renew end-to-end project manager, collaborating across all other work stream leads and on-site resources to achieve goals and objectives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepares RFP’s for external vendors and companies to provide services and products on this project, such as to design engineering, electrical, mechanical and installation companies.
  • Manages contract change orders (CCO), seeking site approval and maintaining change logs for site P/O based work.
  • Coordinates site group resources, such as those within plant processing, instrumentation, maintenance, engineering and operations to communication activity requirements to fulfill project objectives.
  • Acts as the Contract Manager for activity on-site and is the designated person who is responsible for defining the scope of work, requesting a formal contract/purchase order and assures these are in place to fulfill the requirements of Teck’s Environment, Health, Safety and Community (EHSC) Work Plan and Permit2Work are met.
  • Determines if there is a need for an Environmental Protection Work Plan (EPWP), reviews EPWP.
  • Confirm if a Pre-Job Meeting is required (per Section 11.2 of the Teck Coal Contractor Management SP&P), prior to work commencing, etc.
  • Works closely between construction management and external vendors and on-site teams to assure smooth project activity at mine, includes (but not limited to): Creation of work orders, tickets and requests at mine site; Aligns project activity with standards, policy and procedures at Line Creek Operations.
  • Defines and communicates key deliverables, such as ash analyzer implementation timeline, technology changes (per project schedule), testing plan and acceptance criteria.
  • Assesses site team capacity / needs to implement project and ramp up teams.
  • Oversees commissioning and testing of new equipment, supported by external vendors: Coordinates lock-out, tag-out
    • Reviews new LOTO stations, rigging points, belt alignment, etc.
    • Works with RSO to develop signage, conducting training (JOSC training), SP&P’s, SWP’s and SJP’s.
    • Updates maintenance maps (IBM AX, PM’s, SLD’s, handover packages stored on Mine Site file shares, etc.) during transition and handover
    • Updates dig maps to verify new buried utilities are accurate.
  • Oversees calibration of new equipment by coordinating resources:
    • With construction manager, develops plan to conduct static/dynamic calibration
    • Coordinates labor resources (such as Bearspaw Contracting) to physically take belt-stop samples, and prepare for shipment for lab assay testing.
  • Verifies installations are final, hi-vis stickers, yellow guarding/markers are installed, final sign-off and turnover.
  • Develop, coordinate, and complete the facility infrastructure design and build for the raw coal blending initiative at Line Creek Operations.
  • Develop and execute this and other projects with multiple project engineers and managers within
  • the mine site; including engineering, mine operations, plant processing, procurement, EPCM, EHS and external construction management consultants.
  • Responsible for project functions included but not limited to Project Management, Site Management, Project Control Management, Engineering Management, Procurement, Construction Management, etc. are all coordinated and properly staffed to meet the goals.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting standards (per Line Creek Operations – Engineering) are maintained throughout the project(s).
  • Coordinate and communicate projects group as needed on major projects across the mine site.
  • Coordinate with Coal BU, and site management on status, significant trends and changes of projects in execution.
  • Establish the working relationship with operations management needed to facilitate the coordination and execution of project work, such that the operational impact is minimized.
  • Ensure safety and QA/QC programs are established by all parties and maintained and conduct reviews of detailed design drawing and specifications.
  • Monitor engineering progress against budget and forecasted schedule; as reported by construction management and RACE Renew project management.
  • Participate in and lead risk assessments, contribute to Management of Change (MOC) plans, and actively manage the risks of the projects and the mine site.
  • Prepare project estimates, budget, schedules and execution plans on an RFP basis with external vendors and consultants to achieve the project(s) goals.
  • Preparing the engineering budget, project schedules and project control budgets for mechanical projects.
  • Prepare and submit reports on the progress and status of the project.
  • Maintain effective and on-going communications with construction and contractor management teams.
  • Assist with project QA/QC and commissioning systems, transition packages and handover documentation.
  • Perform other project engineering and project management related duties.


Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Engineering and 10 years project engineering, management experience or equivalent combination of training and experience are necessary.
• Registered with a recognized professional association (P.Eng.) in EGBC, that is the Engineers and Geoscientists BC. This is the business name of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia.
• 10+ years of mining experience in operations, engineering and project evaluation.
• Strong track record of successfully completed projects in the mining industry.
• Experience in capital project management from $10M to $100M a plus.
• Strong knowledge of Safety and Environmental Regulations, BC Mines Health, Safety and Reclamation Code, BC Mines Act and/or Mine Supervisor Certification.
