Reporting to the Lead, Water Management, the Water Resource Scientist / Engineer-in-Training / Engineer, Environment is responsible for water management infrastructure design and implementation, data collection, systems maintenance, supporting development of processes, and tracking of water Key Performance Indicators. You will ensure upkeep and use of the water balance model to support sustainable Operations, in alignment with compliance requirements, Regional Water Quality Modelling, and Teck Water Governance Framework.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Build updates of water planning related tools, such as water balance model
  • Manage risks through effective implementation of site water management
  • Implement water management tools, in alignment with long term site water management strategies and regulatory authorizations
  • Identify operational water supply needs, water quality, infrastructure risk, and develop feasible mitigation in coordination with partners based on permitted mine life
  • Ensure regulatory commitments relating to Water Management Plans and Water Management Facilities are met
  • Provide technical editing of permitting applications and regulatory submissions
  • Complete capital budget planning for water projects and ensure project management standard methodologies are applied
  • Advise on surface water, groundwater, and hydrology monitoring programs
  • Prepare and review data and reports to meet regulatory and other commitments, including presentation of technical information to a variety of audiences


Qualifications:

  • Degree in Science, Engineering, or Geology
  • Experience in an industrial environment; experience in mining, or oil and gas, is an asset
  • Experience leading development and implementation of water management programs, and risk evaluation of water quality and quantity
  • Technical knowledge of federal and provincial mining water practices and regulatory compliance
  • Relevant professional accreditation, or eligible for accreditation, such as the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (EGBC); Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration
  • Experience developing water balances in GoldSim is an asset
