Job description:
General Role Purpose (brief description of this job)
Specialist, GIS Data Analysis is responsible for building and maintaining GIS databases and utilizing the GIS software to analyze the spatial and non-spatial information in the databases linked to the Tailings Management Facility (TMF) continuous growth and operation.
Qualifications (required for job) & Knowledge & Experience
  • A Bachelor's degree in a discipline such as Computer Science, Geography, Engineering, or similar.
  • 3 years of demonstrated work experience performing GIS tasks.
  • Profound GIS knowledge, as a GIS specialist is expected to work with various GIS tools.
  • Ability to pay particular attention to details to work with databases and also analyze information.
  • High analytical thinking to effectively analyze information and databases.
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Drone operation and post-processing are desirable.
  • Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and work with departmental staff and management.
  • Ability to pay particular attention to details to work with databases and also analyze information.
    Core Specific Responsibilities & Expected Deliverables
    • Leading activities linked to gathering GIS data, such as drone flights, bathymetric surveys, instrumentations, sensors, and telemetry systems, among others.
    • Produce high-quality deliverables linked to GIS data, mapping, and other requests from the department.
    • Collaborates with staff, management, consultants, and others in the accomplishment of goals and objectives; and increases interagency coordination by working closely with internal and external geospatial users.
    • Supporting the development and management of GIS applications that are based on growing and improving business demands.
    • Overseeing the planning and coordination of GIS activities to meet the outlined goals.
    • Overseeing data flow, management, and distribution activities that are aimed at supporting GIS.
    • Maintaining up-to-date and accurate geospatial documentation for reference purposes.
    • Efficiently managing geospatial database and developing effective maps and aerial photography.
    • Prepare opportunities and constraints analysis, spatial analysis to provide data and statistics for permit applications, critical issues analysis, and impact assessments.
    • Develop long-range planning requirements for a sustainable GIS environment.
    • Training other members of the team in GIS routinary activities.
    • Any other duties assigned.

        Operational Requirements
        Cobre Panama is a remote site. This exciting position is based on-site and will be focusing on driving and delivering operational accountability and ownership across various units at Cobre Panama site. Rosters and working hours may vary depending on business requirements.
        Environmental Responsibilities
        • Comply with current environmental regulations in Panama
        • Comply with the commitments contained in the Environmental Impact Studies and other additional studies in this regard, which apply to your area and activities.
        • Comply with the provisions of the Minera Panama Environmental Management System.
