Purpose

Identify and develop improvements for the UG drilling and blasting for stoping and development by optimizing drilling patterns, loading design and practices. Incorporate Fatal Risks mitigation into mine planning activities to achieve safe production metrics. Plan drill and blast short and medium range activities based on the mining sequence to reach the targets of the company.

Essential Duties

  • Align to and enforce Newmont standards /safety rules.
  • Develop and maintain drilling, loading and blasting criteria
  • Carry out drill, load, and blast pattern designs
  • Complete monthly stope reconciliations and manage material changes to onsite drill and blast practices
  • Lead and support mine planning team with implementing drill and blast initiatives
  • Carry out continuous improvement projects through the whole drill and blast process
  • Effective communication of change management to stakeholder and ensure changes are implemented along ST, MT and LT
  • Organize weekly blast review and optimization meetings
  • Statistical data control and analysis of fragmentation, blasted material inventory and blast evaluation.
  • Engage with explosive supplier, work together to maximize stopes recovery and minimize costs
  • Implement/review QA/QC program for drilling and loading


Training & Experience

  • Registered with Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and working towards designation, or equivalent in other jurisdiction
  • A Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or equivalent combination of education and professional experience
  • 1 - 2 years of technical and/or operational drill and blast experience
  • Be technically competent and have a good understanding of key business drivers for gold mining
  • Deswik.IS skills are strongly desired
  • Basic knowledge of drill and blast equipment.
  • Technical knowledge of drill and blast design, execution, analysis, and result optimization.
  • Analytical skills which derives accurate diagnosis of blasting results.


Working Conditions

This is a site based position, located in Timmins, ON with some travel required.
The schedule is 4 days on, 3 days off.
