The NZ Transport Agency along with its delivering agency the Mt Messenger Alliance, is constructing, and continuing to operate, a new section of SH3, between Uruti and Ahititi to the north of New Plymouth in Taranaki which is located entirely within the rōhe of Ngāti Tama. This new section of SH3 will bypass the existing approximately 7.4km steep, narrow and winding section of highway at Mt Messenger.

About the role:

As Project Manager you will provide leadership and direction across the project teams which include Engineers, Supervisors, Forepersons, Administration and Sub-contracting staff, providing the link between the front line workforce, our customers and the communities we live in.

Day to day you will be involved in:

• Managing project budgets and financial project reporting
• Managing resources including staff, plant, suppliers, subcontractors and materials
• Supporting and mentoring the project team
• Ensuring commitment to zero harm, HSE and environmental compliance
• Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with staff, customers, stakeholders
• Manage the allocation of people, plant, technology and resources to achieve outcomes.
• Critically challenge all aspects of the project, ensuring that the construction team is recognised as delivering operational excellence on behalf of Downer and is fully integrated with the rest of the time to deliver the best for project outcome.

About you:

• The ability to drive profitability and results through operational excellence on time and to budget
• Have a proven track record of meeting deadlines and prioritising duties
• Experience in leading, facilitating and inspiring a team of project staff
• Proven management experience with responsibility and accountability for employees, plant and return on investment
• Have the ability to read, understand and interpret specifications and requirements to ensure the are being implemented efficiently and accurately
• Demonstrated history in developing a culture of Zero Harm
• At least 10 years' experience in the tunnel sector, with at least 5 of years of experience in a management role.
• Strong track record in the delivery of successful tunnel projects which has included the use of Roadheaders, permanent shotcrete lining, and rockbolting, together with the installation of permanent precast portal and emergency structures and M&E systems.
• Strong capability in the development of temporary works solutions for site establishment, portal preparation, electrical, mechanical and ventilation systems to support tunnelling operations in a remote challenging environment.
• Recent experience of developing and implementing procedures reflecting NZ regulatory requirements relating to tunnel development.
• Ability to proactively assist with the design development of tunnel M&E FLS solutions and their integration with national traffic management control systems.
