Position summary
Downer Rail and Transit Systems (RTS) is a division of the ASX listed Downer Group and has over 150 years' experience providing end-to-end, innovative transport solutions. We are a leading provider of rollingstock asset management services in Australia, with expertise in delivering whole of life asset management support to our customers. Our capability spans all sectors, from rollingstock to infrastructure, and every project phase, from design and manufacture to through-life-support, fleet maintenance, operations and comprehensive overhaul of assets.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will lead the Facilities Asset Maintenance Strategy, Performance, Capital Improvements and Facility Maintenance teams with a strong focus on driving a contemporary approach that aligns with the increasingly challenging rail facilities environment. Your leadership will create a culture where strategic asset facilities management is viewed as a practical, outcome-oriented function that proactively delivers innovation opportunities and improvements. This role is an opportunity to make an impact through your blend of leadership, technical and stakeholder engagement skills. This role will see you accountable for the efficient, cost effective maintenance, development and capital improvements across our Rail Facilities.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Developing procedures and maintenance plans in order to improve the efficiency and performance of facilities and maintenance activities across our sites
  • Planning and implementation of cost-effective and quality facility services including maintenance, cleaning, security, car parking, utilities management, and specialist equipment
  • Co-ordination of facilities planning, capital works projects, and refurbishment projects
  • Supporting any new bids or projects across all sites - eg. any new facilities on site / modifications of the facility
  • Establish key strategic alliances with suppliers, coupled with internal stakeholder management of complex relationships with a focus on delivery of cost reduction, cost mitigation and long term sustainable benefits to the business
  • Effectively managing a team of 7 direct reports that are geographically dispersed
  • Support key stakeholders on project related initiatives, bringing your experience and knowledge to drive best for business outcomes.

About you
  • Engineering Degree (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or Structural)
  • Experienced buildings/engineering/infrastructure project manager for infrastructure projects of between $10M and $100M.
  • Facilities asset management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of rail infrastructure, including signalling, track engineering and overhead power elements preferred
  • Strong project management disciplines, including scoping, estimating and cost forecasting.
  • Leadership of middle managers and role modelling of desired behaviours/culture for the organisation
  • Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Ability to deal with a variety of complex issues concurrently, within tight operational deadlines
