The Tasiast mine is an open-pit operation in northwestern Mauritania located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored. The mine is proceeding with an expansion that is expected to increase production and lower operating costs. Tasiast is a cornerstone asset in Kinross' portfolio, with a long mine life a large mineral reserve base.

As one of the largest private employers in Mauritania, Tasiast invests heavily in training and career development opportunities and has many important programs in place to support its host communities. For example, since 2014, Tasiast's mobile clinic, which provides free medical support to isolated communities, has provided over 32,000 consultations.

Job Description

The expatriate is responsible for all activities concerned with contracts for works and services carried out under various contract forms and modes of reimbursement associated with the Tasiast Capital Projects. Managing, coordinating and administrating contracts to ensure cost and schedule compliance. Support compliance of Kinross policies and procedures, contract and commercial conditions, and optimizes service times for the company and contractor performance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Administration of construction and service contracts including change management for in or out of scope items
  • Prepares variations to contracts, contract documents and amendments, ensures that terms and conditions will be appropriate
  • Assisting with input to monthly project reports for construction progress and status of contracts and cost trends
  • Manage contract correspondence and costs. Prepare all contractual letters to the contractor
  • Check time-sheets for contract conformance (rates, backup, extensions)
  • Review contractor invoices and prepare progress payment certificates with cost control
  • Review contractor costs, forecasts and request for extras
  • Conduct weekly construction contractor meetings and record meeting minutes (kick-off, weekly construction contract review, etc.)
  • Establishes and maintains accurate tracking records tailored to each contract
  • Prepares Request for Proposals as required. Interfaces with all affected project functions to clarify and ensure that all necessary data has been included
  • Receives contractors' responses to requests for proposals, determines each contractor's ability to meet Company and project requirements, and negotiates the terms and conditions
  • Negotiate changes to the terms and conditions in order to reduce risk exposure
  • Claims administration
  • Assist in the settlement of back charges and discrepancies when requested by authorized construction personnel
  • Maintain various contract registers and as per project specific instructions
  • Issue contract close-out documentation: contract close-out change order, certificate of final completion
  • Perform other duties as assigned and delegated by the Project Director, the Project Procurement Manager, or the Contract Administration Manager

Education and Experience

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain or related field or equivalent experience


Experience
  • 5+ years of related work experience
  • Previous experience managing large EPC/M Contractors in a Mining location
  • Experience in a contracts administration role in the construction industry. Mining experience essential
  • Good understanding & extensive experience of procurement and contract administration processes and principles
  • Strong grasp of procedural requirements & necessity of providing an Audit Trail for Management purposes
  • Ability to efficiently work with other groups to resolve issues
  • Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
