Hatch, a full-service consultancy, is currently seeking a highly motivated Project Manager and Consultant to join the Urban Solutions team based in both Mississauga and downtown Toronto. The Urban Solutions team collaborates with other Hatch teams in environment, infrastructure engineering, energy engineering, advisory, and economics and planning around the world .

Hatch is continuing to grow our Urban Solutions team and build our development advisory practice.We are busy helping communities, particularly in the Greater Toronto Area, safely and successfully get approvals in the vicinity of special infrastructure such as rail corridors which requires consideration for good urban design and walkability, achievement of appropriate density, and ensuring safety and approvability. We are specifically looking for a successful candidate to act as a Project Manager and Consultant.

As a Project Manager in Urban Solutions, you will:
  • Play a primary role in scope development, proposal writing, and project management, be client-facing;
  • Liaise with private-sector land developers, and assist in the preparation and delivery of rail safety assessments, land use compatibility assessments, and other assignments as needed;
  • Be responsible for the delivery of the work and project controls.
  • Be comfortable managing multiple deadlines and coordinating amongst a multidisciplinary team to deliver the work, interfacing with other technical and business professionals inside and outside Hatch.


You bring to the role:
  • A background in engineering, rail or structural engineering would be ideal; however, it is not a requirement.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • P.Eng. and PMP preferred.
  • A planning background preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Resourceful; willingness to consult multiple people and sources to find answers and/or solutions.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Experience in multi-stakeholder engagement settings.
  • Interest in land development, railways and transit-oriented development.
  • Experience with one or more of the following software programs: AutoCAD, Bluebeam / PDF X-Change Editor and SAP 2000.
  • Familiarity with: AREMA Guidelines; FCM/RAC Guidelines for New Development in Proximity to Rail Operations; Metrolinx Adjacent Development Guidelines; Development of Crash Wall Design Loads from Theoretical Train Impact; and A Place to Grow: Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe.
