Reporting to the Senior Project Geologist on the Mesaba Program, the Geologist is responsible for collecting and processing geologic data to support the requirements of the 2023 drill program. This will be a temporary position starting on or around January 3rd, 2023 and ending on or around June 30th, 2023, with the potential to extend based on performance and drill program results.

Overview:

The Mesaba deposit is located in St. Louis County, Minnesota, approximately 5 miles south of the town of Babbitt and 94 miles north of Duluth. Mesaba is a magmatic Cu-Ni-PGM (Co, Au-Ag) sulphide deposit owned by Teck Resources Limited that ranks amongst one of the largest undeveloped deposits globally in terms of contained copper, nickel, and platinum group metals. Teck is a diversified natural resource development and operating company with significant operations in Copper, Zinc, Steelmaking Coal, and Energy.

The Mesaba Project team is conducting a drill core program in 2023 to further define the resource and to provide geological and geotechnical information to ultimately inform an updated mine plan. In addition to the drill program, the Mesaba Project is in the early stages of environmental and social baseline studies. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a small, focused team committed to working safely while incorporating input from stakeholders, consultants, and regulators to advance a world-class development opportunity in one of the world’s most prospective metallogenic belts for copper-, nickel- and platinum group metal mineralization.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Promotes a safety leadership culture by ensuring that proper safety practices are followed in accordance with Teck’s health and safety policies
  • Contribute to the safe, productive, and cost-effective delivery of the 2023 Mesaba Drill Program through effective and timely:
    • Measurement and marking of diamond drill core
    • Collection of geotechnical and geological data from drill core
    • Organization and handling of core boxes
    • Collection of high-resolution core photography
    • Communication and coordination with drillers and/or other contractors as needed
  • Actively seeks opportunities to recognize health and safety hazards, resolves safety issues and works to mitigate associated risks in the workplace
  • Maintain and develop professional competencies by keeping abreast of technical advances and expanding personal technical knowledge
  • Communicate openly and transparently with supervisor on a regular basis and report all material exploration results on a timely basis
  • Ensures activities are consistent with Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and management systems, as guided by the Charter of Corporate Responsibility, the Code of Business, Environmental and Health and Safety Practices and the EHS Management Standards


Qualifications:

  • Completion of a post-secondary geoscience or relevant degree is required, some field or academic project work would be beneficial
  • Eligibility to work in the United States is required
  • Prior core logging experience with digital data capture is a strong asset
  • Experience with winter drill programs and in magmatic sulphide deposits is an asset
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift core boxes up to 50 lbs
  • Strong observational skills
  • Good written and oral English
  • Effective communication skills, written and verbal
  • Good critical thinking, data analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel within the region as required
  • Pursues everything with energy, empowers others, and shares ownership and accountability for project outcomes
