Casual Security Guard

Position Description:

Reporting to the Security Supervisor the guards' primary responsibility is to ensure the site is secure. They are the first responder in case of a site emergency, conduct orientations as required, conduct searches as required, random drug & alcohol testing, and enforce company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

• First Response for any emergency response at all times while on shift if required
• Support all plans in order to obtain and sustain desired operating performance.
• Perform physical inspections to determine if work meets company standards in regards to quality, and safety.
• Recommend measures or changes to improve methods, performance and use of equipment and personnel to increase efficiency of department and entire mine.
• Ensure all work completed supports activities of the subsequent shifts; communicate these activities to the cross shift and Supervisor.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly shift reports as required.
• Complete operational checks monitoring quality and productivity ensuring established standards are met.
• Complete all housekeeping tasks and audits as required.
• Assist in the Occupational Health Centre in the absence of the nurse.
• Do first aid room audits and report deficiencies to the occupational health nurse.
• Do rescue vehicle inspections to maintain equipment in good condition for emergency response.
• Do security vehicle inspections to maintain the vehicle and the emergency equipment in good condition for emergency response.
• Make safety signs to be used on site.
• Undertake business improvement initiatives and audits to maintain continuous improvement in the area.
• Do security patrols in all areas on day and night shifts as required.
• Undertake tours of the Hemlo tailings area on dayshift seven days per week.
• Maintain the requirements for the Hirsch card access system; disable cards, correct passback issues; produce cards when required; fill in temporary card log book; audit the log book at the end of shift; follow up to cards not returned.
• Issue and document security seals required in the mill area.
• Be present for work in all secure areas such as the refinery, screens, pump boxes, sumps, and pumps.
• Monitor clean up, planned and emergency maintenance work on the Knelson floor, Gold Room, and Refinery.
• Undertake delivery orientation when required by delivery people, send paperwork to Training Department for record keeping.
• Ensure that all persons coming onto site get appropriate visitor orientation to be conducted by Security.
• Assist by doing random personal and vehicle searches to satisfy the search protocol.
• In some instances, this position will be required to undertake other responsibilities which may be allocated to other guards to allow training and to make sure that all guards are kept full abreast of the work required.
• Secondary duties include accomplishing duties that are allocated because of their expertise; undertaking day to day responsibilities of guards working the dayshift schedule (12 hour shifts).
• Perform other duties or special assignments as required.
• To respond to the mill to undertake security responsibilities.
• To undertake mill tours that will identify missing seals, broken locks, and items that are not in accordance security standards
• To oversee work in secure areas.
• Remove material cleaned up from liners, redundant equipment, gold trap areas and deliver the material to the refinery or the disposal location.
• To oversee the work in the refinery
• To know and understand the security and mill security procedures, the best practices, site access procedures that apply to the security of the Hemlo site.
• Audit and clean cameras.
• To review procedures that may change because of the dynamics of the workplace and report the required changes to the Security supervisor.
• Review live and recorded images as required and complete the required forms.
• Complete all daily required forms.

Qualifications:

• Ontario Security Guard License
• Law & Security/Police Foundations Diploma or 2 years' experience as a security guard.
• Advanced First Aid.
• Knowledgeable in computer skills
• Understanding of WHMIS and SDS
• Knowledgeable in health & safety standards
• Knowledgeable in site and department operating procedures.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instruction.
• Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrate applicable ethics and due diligence.
• Manage time effectively.
• Excellent presentation skills.
