Description

Under limited supervision, assists in providing technical advice and guidance for designated projects and programs for Resource Management [Environmental Technology (ET) and Life Cycle Analysis Team (LCAT)]. This position will support ET/LCAT's applied research and development programs to safely advance business-critical projects. The selected candidate will assist in the design, implementation, operation, and monitoring of projects utilizing emerged and emerging technologies with the overarching goal of managing environmental liabilities.
  • Reviews, investigates, and develops improvements and design for current operation processes and recommendations for assigned liability management projects. Provides evaluation of project background, historical data and information, and project goals for assessment of viable alternatives
  • Organizes and participates in conceptualization, site visits and investigation, development, evaluation, implementation or modification for small- to large-scale projects
  • Organizes and supervises field and laboratory activities and works with support personnel, site contacts, and vendors/consultants. Analyze data from field and laboratory activities including mass balance, percent recovery. Provide recommendations to optimize processes to increase efficiency and/or production
  • Evaluate and recommend relevant emerged and emerging technologies and processes.
  • Perform other duties as required


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline and five (5) years related experience in engineering or related field, OR
  • Master's degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline and three (3) years related experience in engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of the scientific method.
  • Able to research, synthesize, and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety culture among FM and contractor employees.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Skill in managing large/complex Engineering projects


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 years' experience in industrial water treatment
  • Experience with metal mining operations and processes
  • Project management experience including cost estimating, project scheduling and project controls
  • Familiar with related Engineering software (AutoCAD/Civil 3D/ Hydraulic Modeling Software)
  • Knowledgeable in process control
  • High mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read P&IDs, PFD, other engineering drawings.
  • Skilled in effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work safely


Criteria/Conditions:
  • Position will require up to travel (25%) to various active or legacy mine sites to conduct related activities.
  • This position requires domestic travel including air travel.   • Work is mainly in an office setting but will also include time spent in a laboratory setting or in the field. Field work may include exposure to extremes in temperature, altitude, and humidity, moving mechanical parts and equipment, risk of electric shock, and potential exposure to toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally regularly required to walk over rough terrain; stand, sit, or drive vehicles for extended periods of time; demonstrate manual dexterity; climb slopes, stairs, or ladders and work on elevated platforms; and, talk, see, smell and hear to recognize unsafe conditions.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work at a mine, outdoors, near construction, or in a industrial plant environment. Required equipment includes hard hat, hi-vis safety vest, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, hearing protection, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
  • Occasionally may be required to lift and carry moderately heavy objects (up to 30 pounds) during the course of the workday.
  • This position requires domestic travel including air travel.
