Hatch is seeking a Regional Manager to lead our Engineered Equipment Group in the USA. The Technologies team is focused on the commercialization and delivery of technologies across all three of Hatch’s sectors: Metals, Energy, Infrastructure. We’re a team of innovators and problem solvers who deliver custom and specialized engineering to deliver novel solutions and technologies, especially for the most challenging physical environments.   

In addition to developing new technologies and selecting and installing equipment in greenfield projects, we help our clients to get the most from their existing assets by providing field support, rebuild repairs, and retrofits. We also work with our clients to optimize their existing technologies to achieve the maximum benefit.  

Technologies’ Engineered Equipment group is growing and is in the process of establishing a physical presence in Hatch’s existing and well-established Pittsburgh office to support and build on the work our group already does for USA based clients. Reporting to the Global Director of Engineered Equipment and Project/Engagement Managers as appropriate, you will expand the breadth and depth of our USA sourced business (and support international work as appropriate), based from our Pittsburgh office.

The Role (includes but is not limited to):
  • Building and leading our group’s physical presence in the USA region
  • Client interaction and business development to source and secure opportunities
  • Solution conceptualization and proposals including project & engineering estimates
  • The protection of our intellectual property
  • Ideation, conceptual layout and detailed design of a broad spectrum of machines and systems including custom mechanical systems and proprietary Hatch equipment
  • Apply engineering principles for mechanical equipment
  • Evaluate equipment concepts, perform option identification, option selection and trade-off studies
  • Ensure the delivery of proposal or project requirements as they relate to scope, cost, and schedule
  • Review, prepare or contribute to documents such as proposals, cost estimates, Design Basis, Mechanical Design Criteria, Operating Philosophy, Operations and Maintenance Manuals, equipment specification packages, reports and presentations
  • Oversee and review the work of other engineers and designers
  • Some 3D CAD package usage, exposure (e.g. Solid Edge, Inventor)
  • Collaborate with process, structural and control system engineers and designers in the detailed design of custom equipment, including equipment design reviews, design development and process hazard review studies
  • Provide occasional site support, including field verification during construction and vendor fabrication assistance
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to more junior staff
  • Carry out assigned tasks within budget and on schedule


About you:
  • A demonstrated history of achievement
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree from a recognized institution, with 15+ years working experience
  • Registration as a professional engineer in at least one US state
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites including remote sites
  • Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills / emotional intelligence
  • Excellent written and oral communications
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail while staying focused on ‘big picture’ issues
  • Some previous business development or sales experience with a strong customer/client focus
  • Demonstrated critical and creative thinking and problem solving, and brings forward solutions for our clients’ toughest challenges
  • Ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team and coordinate mechanical activities between disciplines
  • Experience leading designers and engineers
  • Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions
  • A large breadth and depth of practical experience
  • Some knowledge of industry standards, regulations and codes pertinent to mechanical engineering
  • A background with topics such as: custom designed equipment, statics, dynamics, thermal analysis, fluids analysis, Finite Element Analysis, and hydraulic circuits.
  • Some knowledge of 3D data centric design systems / processes
  • A self-starter who adapts and embraces change
  • A US citizen with a valid driver’s license and passport
