Roxgold is a West African subsidiary of Fortuna Silver Mines is currently in the construction phase of their pit gold mine, located in Séguéla - Côte D’Ivoire.

 

Séguéla will become Fortuna’s fifth mine with the first gold pour projected by mid-2023. The mine has compelling economics, with a nine-year mine life in reserves with potential for further growth. The initial six years are expected to report 130,000 ounces of gold production annually. With the total initial capital investment of $173.5 million, the anticipated construction schedule is approximately 20 months and ramp-up to name plate capacity of 3,750 tpd is expected in the third quarter of 2023.

 

Ivory Coast is the largest economy in the West African Economic and Monetary Union, constituting 40% of the monetary union's total GDP. Ivory Coast is the fourth-largest exporter of general goods in sub-Saharan Africa (following South Africa, Nigeria, and Angola).

Working Conditions/Environment

 

This position operates on a FIFO 6/3 roster working 12-hour days based at the Séguéla Gold Project in Côte D’Ivoire.

The Senior Mine Geologist will be responsible for leading the Mine Geology team within the Mine Department of a producing gold mine, including the management of grade control drilling and ore modelling.

Travel between Côte D’Ivoire and point of hire is undertaken within company time. Accommodation on site is provided in an ensuite room in a modern camp with good facilities.


Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

    Provide team leadership for the safe execution of all Mine Geology duties; Adhere to and support all company related policies and procedures; Actively participate in weekly, monthly and LOM planning; Daily, weekly and monthly reporting; Mine-to-Mill, and Resource-to-Mine reconciliations; Planning of RC drill designs for Grade Control; Ensure grade control samples and assay laboratories meet site and corporate QA/QC compliance; Database management of Grade Control programs; Assist in the development of functional and efficient grade control processes for departmental use; Perform block model estimations for short-term mine planning; Initiate processes to minimize and monitor ore loss and ore dilution, and blast-induced ore movement during mining activities: Supervision, instruction, development and training of Mine Geologists; 3D lithological, structural and grade modeling for estimation and mining purposes; Participate in continuous improvement studies to improve site economics; Work with operations resource geologists to evolve and update resource models; Ensure that an effective working relationship is maintained with Roxgold employees, contractors and consultants; and Other duties as directed

 

 

Job Requirements

    Tertiary training in Geology; Minimum of 5-10 years of experience at an active mine, with a minimum of 3 years in open pit operations; Familiarity with mining process; Strong familiarity with Surpac, Leapfrog and Datashed, or similar software; Sound experience with 3D geologic modeling; Experience in database management; Experience in budget management; Basic understanding of linear estimation methods (ID, kriging); Strong familiarity with sampling and QA/QC best practices; and
  • Valid driver's license
