Would you like to have a career with a collaborative, diverse, and dynamic mining company? We have an exciting opportunity for you! Our people division is growing, and we are looking for a Project Engineer II to join our Goldstrike Dewatering team.

Position Description:
  • Help coordinate all aspects of mining projects including contractors, construction workers, supporting engineers, and project staff for greenfield and brownfield projects assigned to the team.
  • Help coordinate project design, costing, and implementation management activities, including assisting consultants performing associated detailed engineering, design, and costing for the project.
  • Liaise with other departments including, but not limited to, Health, Safety and Environment, Asset Management, Reliability, Operations, Technical Services, and other departments impacted by the project. Assists in obtaining customer input and support of the design and agreed upon deliverables.
  • Assist project team in providing supporting documentation for the environmental department and/or permitting group to help obtain required permits to prevent delays in construction, commissioning, and final handover to the plant.
  • Assist the project team with generating project scopes of work, subsequent contracts, procurement orders, required supporting documentation, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Consider applying DROM (Design for Reliability, Operability, and Maintainability), OR (Operational Readiness) principles, and Business Improvement practices to help provide the safest, lowest long-term cost of asset ownership to the value chain.
  • Sets meaningful annual and ad hoc goals and objectives for subordinates for which they will be measured against during the performance review cycle as well as goals and objectives for their direct reports. Completes performance reviews at required intervals. Identifies and addresses performance issues in a timely, consistent, and appropriate manner.


Responsibilities:
  • Ensure engineering specifications and criteria comply with applicable government (MSHA, EPA, etc.) and corporate codes, practices, policies, standards, and specifications.
  • Proactively assist the project team in analyzing problems as they occur and help develop countermeasures to remediate the problem while remaining cognizant to not introduce other problems because of the implemented countermeasures.
  • Apply the seven project phases concept (Identify, Prepare, Appraise, Present, Implement, Monitor, and Evaluate) for all projects.
  • Effectively communicate with peers and stakeholders at all levels within the organization as required.
  • Understand the fundamentals of other peripheral engineering roles and be cognizant of overlaps and impacts to one another during every project phase.
  • Understand and apply DROM (Design for Reliability, Operability, and Maintainability), OR (Operational Readiness), and Business Improvement principles to help achieve the safest and lowest long-term cost of asset ownership to the value chain.
  • Assist in preparing capital appropriates requests including assisting in assembling required supporting documentation.
  • Assist in preparing, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring team-assigned engineering projects, and monitor projects to help ensure they stay within the constraints of time, cost, and scope.
  • Assist in developing proposals and cost estimates for team-assigned projects to ensure they include required equipment, materials, personnel, and other peripheral services.
  • Assist in developing resolutions to problems associated with a projects' design, engineering, and/or construction recognizing problems will vary in severity and may require more advanced project management knowledge to ensure adequate resolution.
  • Assist in performing quality control tasks against budgets, schedules, plans, and assist in producing project status reports for distribution.
  • Assist in formulating project parameters and help monitor progress while addressing constraints as well as issues in a timely manner.
  • Assist in performing risk and consequences analysis for projects to help understand both risks as well as opportunities that may occur during each project phase and help raise the appropriate awareness within the projects team.
  • Understand and interact with functions and/or customers who may be impacted by the project to determine and account for their needs and requirements, while representing those customers interests in the field during project execution.
  • Cooperate and communicate with members of the project team and other entities as needed and collaborate with more senior engineers to help adopt the most cost effective and efficient practices during the project.
  • Assist in developing procurement specifications for equipment while adhering to DROM and OR principles, NGM equipment standardization initiatives, and best practices.
  • Assist in in creating and/or updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) and asset management tactics including, but not limited to, bills of material, spares, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, etc., prior to handover to the plant. Assist the projects team by helping provide training and guidance to operating personnel for unfamiliar equipment and processes during commissioning, start-up, and ahead of handover to the plant.
  • Assist the projects team in helping create a framework for measuring a project's metrics and effectiveness upon project completion to help gauge whether, or not, the project met established criteria defined in the capital appropriations justification. Assist in producing and reporting and for distributing report to the appropriate entities as required.
  • Assist the projects team in preparing for a post-project report-out at the agreed upon time interval after project completion as directed.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Commitment to safety for self and others as well as embracing environmentally friendly work practices.
  • Knowledge of general mining operations and practices.
  • Understanding of project prioritization, project execution, project management, including knowledge of construction, commissioning, handover, and post-project activities.
  • Exposure to contract management and assisting in managing contractors.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, knowledge of design and visualization software, scheduling software, and MS Office products including Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to interface with multiple functions and roles and at all levels within the organization.
  • Understanding of project management and organizational skills including time management, leadership, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills at the team and peer level.
  • Understanding of applicable engineering and peripheral codes, policies, standards, and best practices.
