The Role

We are now seeking an experienced Planner for a FIFO position on Lihir Island, PNG. Reporting to the Senior Specialist-Shutdowns Mechanical. The role involves preparation of procedures and protocols around Front-end Grinding shutdowns which includes but not limited to preparing and sourcing work maintenance activities to align with plant Maintenance strategies so as to include into short term shutdown plans. In addition, the Planner would prepare work packs and interact with Maintenance department at all levels to ensure the safety and the execution of a Shutdown have been planned and scheduled correctly.

In addition, the Planner's role is to monitor shutdown backlogs and ensure all critical work is captured and included into the Maintenance plans. Further, the planner would be immersed into planning tactics and Cadence and alignment meetings.

The role will have responsibility to:
  • Scope all corrective action work orders tasks to accurately reflect manning, material, tools, and equipment resources to successfully complete the job safely and within identified equipment shutdown timeframe.
  • Prepare all corrective action work packs to ensure safety and quality is maintained to a high standard during execution.
  • Review and update all system generated work orders as well as PRT's to ensure any lessons captured from implemented.
  • Identify any Simultaneous Operations and ensure they are captured within the schedule.
  • Revise finals scope of work and ensure all key stakeholders sign off on work methodology and work packs quality.
  • Liaise with Materials Coordinator to ensure all required materials have been ordered and expedited to site, especially long lead time items.
  • Assist Maintenance Supervisors and Scheduler in determining manning
  • Assist Shutdown Specialist and scheduler in determining shutdown manning Production
  • Ensure documentation, maintenance and service records for equipment are complete and kept up to date.


Essential criteria
  • Relevant Engineering orTrade background - Demonstrated RPL of skills.
  • Has extensive experience in Minig Process plants.
  • Planning and scheduling skills are desirable.
  • Formal maintenance planning and scheduling qualification desirable
  • Experience in fixed plant maintenance planning or scheduling in heavy industry, preferably minerals processing desirable.
  • Skilled in the use of CMMS (SAP software) to perform planning and scheduling of maintenance activities is essential
  • Proficient at manpower and resource levelling.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Competently develops Gantt chart and PERT diagrams using MS Project.


Desirable criteria
  • 10 years relevant work experience desirable in heavy industry preferably within a mining environment; either through experience in crushing or a similar operation.
  • Demonstrated experience in heavy fixed plant equipment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously from time to time.
  • High attention to detail with good time management skills.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills.
  • Positive attitude
  • Advanced use of Computerised maintenance systems, preferably SAP
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Sound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.


The Requirements
  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
