We are looking for Scrum Masters to not only collaborate effectively with talented teams, but ensure our users, clients and stakeholders’ needs are met with practical solutions that align with our technology vision!

Assigned to one of the many Agile squads or teams, the Scrum Master is the champion of Agile for a group of professionals who deliver systems and infrastructure to ensure the safety, productivity, and environmental sustainability of Teck’s large scale mining and mineral processing operations. The team delivers and supports a mixed bag of process automation systems, industrial networks, and private LTE – this opportunity will be a delightful intersection of complicated systems and products with hard working teams who have vision and passion for solutions. Other areas of assignment can be Enterprise Application Development, Infrastructure and Cyber Security.

You are expected to facilitate our dedicated teams through their Scrum ceremonies, recommending appropriate approaches tailored to the team’s unique needs, while guiding decision making through collaborator and user engagement. A passion for users is a must, with a laser-focus on identifying user needs and priorities; and delivering solutions to improve outcomes. By guiding the user and employee experience of products and services across, you will be fundamental in transforming business processes.

Multiple positions needed. For some of the roles there will be travel required (mostly to the Elk Valley, BC).

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that project goals, issue scope, and product domains are understood by everyone on the team or squad as well as possible.
  • Remove blockers to team progress and proactively help the team navigate how to make improvements to avoid similar blockers in the future.
  • Implement Agile and Scrum standard methodologies throughout all teams.
  • Help coordinate product specifications, sprints, meetings, sprint demos, and stand-ups.
  • Leads the daily stand-ups and retrospectives.
  • Track project progress and resolve potential issues the team could be dealing with.
  • Offer coaching and mentoring of Agile and Scrum values and best practices.
  • Use reliable sources to estimate how many deliverables are needed for each iteration.
  • Help employees write effective user stories and turn them into subtasks.
  • Organize code reviews and team audits to maintain quality and productivity while anticipating potential risks.
  • Coordinate processes and the product’s release together with other departments.
  • Help the product owner prepare the product backlog for upcoming sprints.
  • Support the team’s refinement of features to be considered in the next PI planning cycle to meet the Feature Definition of Ready.
  • Assists in communication and coordination with project stakeholders during feature definition and delivery. Document all progress and communicate it to the program/upper management and stakeholders.
  • Leads the retrospective
  • Provide regular and open communication across the program and stakeholders for transparency and awareness of progress and impediments.
  • Work with the Project Owners to understand, visualize and manage upstream/downstream dependencies.
  • Drive delivery and continuous improvement by using feedback and metrics (quality, delivery rate, etc.) to identify areas of opportunity.
  • Handle program level coordination, such as creating timelines, achievements, and cadence of increments and releases.
  • Act as consultant/coach to management in resolving unusually difficult problems.
  • Maintains metrics using project management tools to provide visibility on product level plans, progress and quality assurance.
  • Other responsibilities as required or requested.


Qualifications:

  • 5+ years leading teams and / or significant complex projects.
  • Experience with Scrum across teams with different products and Agile approaches (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and experience helping teams choose the right approach to meet their unique needs.
  • Experience with Agile product management tools, Azure DevOps and MIRO highly desired.
  • Proven, prior experience as Scrum Master for long lived value streams and Products.
  • Experience coordinating multiple teams in a technology environment.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills for the purpose of providing and explaining technical and project related information.
  • A critical thinker with experience in business analysis, project management, and organizational change management skills.
  • Working level Spanish would be an asset.
  • For roles involving travel to site, a valid class five driver’s license, with a clean abstract. Comfortable driving on winter roads in remote areas.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification or equivalent - required
  • SAFe Program Consultant (SPC4) certification or equivalent - required
