About this role

What you will be responsible for?

Newmont is seeking an Experienced Chief Mining Engineer to lead the Operational Mining Engineering Group to deliver day-to-day mine planning and to ensure that the Mine Operations have the best available information for a safe execution and planning decision with a strong focus on safe work performance value and culture.

Your role will consist of

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:
  • Technical oversight of the Mine Technical Service Department
  • We ensure optimized life of mine plans and budgets are completed and in line with the site and regional strategic and financial objectives.
  • We lead all aspects of the day-to-day operational engineering, short, medium, and mid-term mine planning, void analysis and mitigation and Ge tech stability, and cost evaluation.
  • We coordinate the development of the mine plan to ensure technical aspects of the mine are optimized.
  • We collaborate with Full Potential Leads and other departments to implement continuous improvement projects.
  • Ensure long-term objectives are captured and prioritized in monthly mine plans.
  • Lead the team to identify and mitigate Technical Risks.
  • We provide timely advice to Technical Service Manager on Technical Risks and Mitigations. Ability to effectively communicate the mine strategy to all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership that fosters teamwork and drives business objectives.
  • We develop and contribute to the development of standardized procedures for Engineering SOPs/ STPs
  • Ability to challenge the status quo respectively to improve mine life
  • Develop and support multi-functional teams that advance early stage projects to the point of production execution.
  • Develop, support and continuously improve the application of various Portfolio management tools & processes
  • We provide scenario planning and modeling functionality to identify the site plans that provide the best leverage to the global portfolio by using the internally developed Portfolio Management tools
  • We actively contribute to the compilation, synthesis and communication of site strategic scenarios within the regional context.

Your Training, Skills & Experience

Here is what we would need to see from you!

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mining Engineering or related degree or equivalent experience required
  • Twelve (12) years experience in the mining industry required
  • Practical experience in a surface mining operations with underground working
  • Knowledge of underground mining methods and design is a plus
  • Knowledge of MSSO mining software is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Strong digital literacy with mine design programs preferred
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively
  • Experience with the life of mine planning in mining operations
  • Experience of working as Mine Operation Supervisor is a plus.


Working Conditions & Location

Where you will be located!

The Cripple Creek & Victor (CC&V) Mine site is located at elevations ranging from approximately 9,400 ft. to 10,600 ft. above sea level. Workers in this position can be exposed to various conditions and work locations throughout this range of elevations and must be physically capable of working at this altitude.

Weather conditions change frequently and can become severe at times.

Ability to complete work tasks while exposed to weather conditions / elevation.

The salary range offered for this role is $130,320-171,045. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company's performance and their own individual performance. This role also will be eligible for participation in a discretionary long-term incentive program, pursuant to which an employee may receive awards based on their level and individual performance.
