  • POSITION OVERVIEW:

    Reporting to the Mill Maintenance Superintendent, the Electrical Engineer will provide technical guidance and support for all aspects of the electrical systems, including transformers, switchgear and communication systems. This is an integral role ensuring safety and reliability of all electrical engineering work.

    MAGINO MINE:

    The Magino Project is a brown-fields site located in northern Ontario, Canada that contains an historical underground gold mine, and tailings management facility ("TMF"). The Corporation has conducted a Feasibility Study during 2017 that examined mining the deposit using conventional open pit mining methods and extraction of gold from the ore using a 10,000 tonnes per day carbon-in-pulp ("CIP") mineral processing facility. When developed, Magino will produce around 150,000 ounces of gold during the first five years of production. The project has over a 15-year mine production life (including one year of pre-production).

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Promote and maintain strict adherence to health, safety, environmental and community relations concerns and regulations.
    • Provide technical guidance and support for all electrical engineering works including major capital projects.
    • Review and evaluate current practices to ensure safety and efficiency, including capacity studies and emergency power strategies.
    • Troubleshoot electrical engineering issues and maintain electrical analysis software and programs.
    • Analyze and interpret trends to maintain reliability and cost effectiveness.
    • Collaborate with other departments to implement continuous improvement initiatives. And contribute to change management
    • Contributes to LOTO document development
    • Coordinate and liaise with local electrical utility with regards to supply power issues
    • Owns power plant decisions and coordinates load shedding contracts and functions once established
    • First line of contact with ESA inspector
    • Conduct engineering analyses and perform computer related functions such as drawings, spreadsheets, and database compilations.
    • Maintain technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills for power distribution and instrumentation systems and components.
    • Facilitate on-going maintenance of the power distribution switchgear, high voltage motors and their control systems.
    • Perform calculations to ensure our systems meet the Ontario safety standards and collaborating with technicians and computer programmers to solve emerging issues.
    • Understand and monitor site adherence to electrical engineering codes and safety standards
    • Manage Engineering Design consultants, including all process design activities associated with capital projects.
    • Assist in tendering and awarding engineering design requirements. Contributes to RFP’s and RFQ’s
    • Provide design input to the engineering design consultants to ensure the design meets operating requirements and permitting requirements.
    • Provide oversight for the construction and commissioning of all electrical projects and systems.
    • Update one-line and prints.
    • Ensure correct operating procedures are followed regarding safety, environmental, and project objectives.
    • Ensure all mineral processing project aspects are carried out in a manner that will meet or exceed company values and vision.
    • Develop or help develop standards and SOPs as required by the site.
    • QUALIFICATIONS:


    • Degree in Electrical Engineering
    • At least 4 years of relevant experience in a mining environment
    • Solid knowledge of electrical software systems and programs
    • Sound understanding of OH&S Act and thorough working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code
    • In-depth knowledge of electrical principles, including those for power distribution, low and medium voltage, AC and DC motors and drives
    • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills
    • Good computer skills with the ability to adapt to new software quickly
    • Works well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

    • The role is located at the Magino Mine, which is approximately 88 kilometres northeast of Wawa, Ontario, Canada.
    • The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 4 days on / 3 days off.
