POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the General Manager, the Mill Manager is responsible for directing all mill operations, maintenance, metallurgical and laboratory activities on site in a manner which ensures compliance with Provincial and Federal regulations. This position drives the operation towards ownership of best practices and behaviours for a safe and healthy work environment. Additionally, this individual will have an active role in Operational Readiness activities for all Magino Operations requirements and works closely with construction and commissioning stakeholders in preparation for handover and start-up.

As a member of the Magino Leadership team, this role participates in the overall management of the operations to ensure that Safety, Production and Cost targets are achieved.

As this is a start-up operation, the successful candidate must have a strong focus on employee development and be able to coach and mentor leaders and all team members toward continued professional growth.

MAGINO MINE:

The Magino Project is a brown-fields site located in northern Ontario, Canada that contains an historical underground gold mine, and tailings management facility ("TMF"). The Corporation has conducted a Feasibility Study during 2017 that examined mining the deposit using conventional open pit mining methods and extraction of gold from the ore using a 10,000 tonnes per day carbon-in-pulp ("CIP") mineral processing facility. When developed, Magino will produce around 150,000 ounces of gold during the first five years of production. The project has over a 15-year mine production life (including one year of pre-production).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major responsibilities:
  • Personally demonstrate a positive attitude towards working safely and in compliance with the Environment and Community.
  • Provide resources and create a working environment that encourages personnel to actively contribute to Safety, Health, Environmental and Community Relations by managing risk in compliance with company objectives, policies, procedures, safe work practices, and Regulations.
  • Actively seek to uphold the Argonaut Code of Ethics.
  • Manage the activities of the Mill Operations, Maintenance, Metallurgical and Laboratory teams.
  • Actively participate in identification and implementation of projects that demonstrates working in an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Ensure Departmental Compliance with Statutory Acts and Regulations.
  • Develop Departmental training strategies and conduct appropriate training modules. Ensure regular updates and reviews are performed and tracked.
  • Interface with Commissioning Manager to transfer project infrastructure to operations and ensure that all operations resources are trained and qualified to participate in commissioning activities.

Specific responsibilities:
  • Ensure production targets of mill throughput and precious metal recovery are achieved and identify areas for possible improvement.
  • Ensure production targets in water management are achieved, compliance limits are achieved and identify areas for possible improvement.
  • Ensure departmental financial targets are achieved and identify areas for possible improvement.
  • Ensure sufficient preventative maintenance is carried out to enable the plant to operate to the budgeted availability and reliability levels or better.
  • Ensure staff are aware of gold room security procedures.
  • Ensure security procedures are constantly reviewed to ensure effectiveness.
  • Ensure the training needs of all departmental personnel are achieved.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial and physical budgets and forecasts.
  • Ensure that the plant is maintained to a level that enables the best performance at the most cost-effective level.
  • Ensure that any areas of the plant that fail to meet the required level of performance are assessed and improvements are investigated and implemented where possible.
  • Ensure that the performance of the plant is maximised by way of continuous improvement, identifying bottlenecks and engineering them out.
  • Participate in developing continuous improvement strategies.
  • Relieve General Manager as required.
  • Conduct after hours and weekend “on call” duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post-secondary education in metallurgy or related field (Required).
  • G Class Driver’s License (Required).
  • 15 – 20 years of mill operations and metallurgical experience with minimum 5 years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Previous experience as a Mill Manager preferred.
  • Prior experience with operational readiness and commissioning in a start-up environment is preferred.
  • In depth understanding of comminution and gold mill processing.
  • Operating and capital budget preparation.
  • Knowledge of the metallurgical accounting process.
  • Clear understanding of company policies and statutory requirements.
  • Sound computing skills including Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). SAP an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Strong commitment to safety, health, risk management, and environmental standards.
  • Ability to engage and influence senior leaders and other key stakeholders.
  • Effective leadership and the ability to build a strong team culture within a diverse workforce.
  • Degree of assertiveness with ability to give direction.
  • Excellent planning, organizing and time management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the operation.
  • Proficiency in computer operation and applications including Control Room Operating Systems. Past experience with Delta V would be an asset.
  • Be able to stand in as acting General Manager in their absence.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • The role is located at the Magino Mine, which is approximately 88 kilometers northeast of Wawa, Ontario, Canada.
  • The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 4 days on and 3 off (10-hour days).
  • Although you will be assigned a work schedule, this is not a guaranteed schedule of hours and your work hours may vary with the needs of the company.
  • As a Management position you will be required to manage your time on site effectively in line with the requirements of the job.
  • Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts.
