About the role

Rio Tinto has recently announced an ambitious strategy to transition our business away from the use of diesel to and decarbonise.

We are looking for applicants to join our Fixed Equipment team - Diesel Transition office, (DTO) role within Global Procurement based in our Perth office.

The role will be responsible to support the DTO team in the development, implementation of strategies, to accelerate and support the development of technical solutions chasing our ambitious GHG goals in their respective time frames. This includes developing and maintaining strong relationships with the technical teams, support functions & Business Units and key Suppliers. to oversee contract preparation & management of Rio Tinto's global / regional contracts for the Diesel Transition office and services to ensure the preparation of contracts, contract management compliance and supplier performance management.

This role includes some work travel to support our operations globally and participation in some business calls outside of office hours, when necessary.

Reporting to the Principal Advisor Diesel Transition Office - Procurement, you will be:
  • Maintaining the highest standard of health and safety performance by implementing a personal safety plan, exhibiting positive safety behaviours, leading by example with colleagues and supplier engagements. Acting in accordance with Rio Tinto Health, Safety and Environmental policies
  • Supporting the DTO team by drafting timely key contracts supporting the enablement of research and development support Diesel Decarbonisation initiatives
  • Measuring and reporting on supplier Key Performance Indicators (KPI) while leading supplier review meetings
  • Developing and maintaining strong customer relationships with key DTO program key stakeholders
  • Developing strong working relationships with DTO peer Fixed Plant & category Procurement colleagues by assisting team members with diesel transition project
  • Monitoring the global mining technology markets which includes market supply/demand analysis, key market drivers, internal forecasts, future trend analysis and specific changes in the Diesel Transition process
  • Following the Rio Tinto Procurement strategic sourcing framework with specific emphasis on contract implementation and contract management
  • Ensuring supplier compliance to Rio Tinto's HSEC Standards and critical risk management processes

About you
  • Experience within the following areas, fixed equipment, decarbonisation, technology & commercial would be advantageous
  • Bachelor degree in Commerce, Technology or a relevant related degree is advantageous
  • Domain knowledge of mining technologies and/or fixedequipment and/or technical expertise in the category
  • Strong commercial acumen with proven category and contract drafting & management capabilities
  • Strong project management, problem solving and customer relationship management skills
  • Ability to communicate succinctly verbally and in written form with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to achieve outcomes through influencing and collaboration with others
  • Ability to work unsupervised and be a self-starter
  • Background in mining or technology related industry is advantageous
